Superbowl Disappointment, a Second Chance and… Veronica Mars? February 4, 2007
Posted by JP in : My Super Proposal , trackbackAs everyone’s noticed, CBS did not air the proposal this Sunday during the game. It turned out to be a lot of fun, anyway. My girlfriend and I watched with my family and some family friends at their house. During the game, CBS called several times to say that they might air it - maybe during the game, maybe after the game - the roller coaster kept my nerves on a highwire, but by the 3rd quarter, we knew it wouldn’t be shown.
However, I do think that everyone who’s been to this site and supported this effort deserves to see the proposal - there’s been such an outpouring of emotion that it would be unfair to let it all slide into nothingness now. And so, we come to my backup plan.
Obviously, both my girlfriend and I are huge NFL fans, and so if it couldn’t happen at the SuperBowl, I kept thinking to myself - how could I make this just as special, if not for the whole world, then at least for her. Last week, I came to the conclusion that the idea of a commercial on TV would fit both my aims; to make this incredibly special for her, and to let everyone who’s been following the effort so far be able to at least see how it plays out. Thus, I decided that a TV spot on my girlfriend’s favorite television show - Veronica Mars - would be appropriate.
For those of you who may not know about Veronica Mars, it’s certainly not the type of show your average NFL fan would watch. However, when my girlfriend started watching while I was working late on my computer one night, I found myself drawn in - I don’t watch it with her religiously, but I admit that the writing for the show is top notch and the characters certainly create both drama and sharp-witted comedy. It’s no SuperBowl, but it is something that means a lot to her and that makes it the perfect venue. After all, this was never meant to be about anything else but showing my girl how much she means to me.
Thus, tomorrow I’m going to a local studio to shoot an ad and this Tuesday (just two nights away) between 9PM and 10PM, you’ll be able to see the commercial air during Veronica Mars on the CW network. The trick is that I could only afford the ad space in my local market (which I still can’t reveal). Luckily, it’s not a huge market, so it was totally affordable (in fact, I couldn’t believe how little a 30 second spot cost - less than 1/4 the price of a small diamond ring). But, right now Joe is working to get in touch with CW executives and make it nationwide - yeah, he never gave up on me, even after his business goals fell through. Having someone like that behind you feels… amazing. I don’t know why he cares so much about me and about this proposal, but it drives him. I can hear in his voice when we talked on the phone tonight how much this meant to him - not the money on the backend or the product placement in the video or the launch of his company Storybids - but, instead, the pure honest drive to see that my girlfriend has one of the most special moments in her life delivered to her in the best possible way.
So - I will update you all tomorrow (or Tuesday) with whether the ad will play nationwide. Even if it doesn’t, you’ll be able to see both that, and her response on the web by Wednesday. To everyone out there who sent so much goodwill and care to this project, I wish you the best. Thanks for all your great wishes, and keep an eye out. We may have lost the fight for a place on the SuperBowl, but we can still share in what will probably be an even more special moment together on Tuesday night.
BTW - If you believe in this and want to see it go national, go to Warner Brothers’ web site (they own the CW) and click on contact us for the email addresses of your region’s contact person.

keep in touch with all of us, i wish u nothing but the best
Watching the game just to see it - CBS better not be jerks!
This is retarded. Myself and four of my friends have been paying way to much attention to the superbowl just to see your commercial. Where the hell is it?
To the left with your proposal, the superbowl and the commercials!
Good luck! =) I’ve been watching the superbowl instead of doing my biology homework to see if they air your commercial. Hope everything works out!!! (Hope she says yes too!) =P
Hey JP–Awesome Idea..and they said Chivalry was dead…not so my friend..I HATE football, and i’ve been watching the whole game, my boyfriend ays they should have a proposal every game, so that i can stop complaining and watch the game! hope it works out! congrats!
hey.. ive been waiting and waiting.. still nothing. Can someone tell me what the name of the of commerical so that i can look it up in Ifilm.. i cannot waitt too see it.
good luck, i know shes gonna say yes.
I am at work and going back and forth looking at the TV for you to make it happen for all of us out here. Now, I want to see some real honest to goodness heartfelt action for you and your bride to be. Best of wishes…………
I’ve been sitting in my room doing my homework. My folks are watching the Big Game. I’ve been keeping my ears wide open during commercials hoping your ad comes on… If it does, I’m going to drop my copy of Hamlet and make a mad dash for the T.V. and cheer you on some more! ^_^
This is an incredible idea!
GOOD LUCK!!!
I have been following since Entertainment Tonight introduced your idea. I am sooooooooo hoping that your proposal airs. If not, CBS is SELFISH!! They can pull an extra 30 seconds out of somewhere. What a clever idea you have. I will be watching and hoping for you.
Please just show the commerical already.. i don’t like football, but i’m sitting here patiently…
I will never watch cbs again unless they air your proposal!
Hi. I wanted to wish you luck and am bummed that the network won’t show the ad. You have been through so much just to get this point and they should show the ad. Maybe we should boycot the network for a while.
Anyway, good luck I wish you and your future finance all the happiness in the world.
I volunteer my services to drink the beer at the wedding free of charge!
I hope it airs! I heard about this on the radio, so this must have some publicity. I can’t find it on ifilm.com I have been watching every commercial to see it! I told my family about it and now they are watching for it as well.
yippe!!!!! we’re supporting u all the way!!!
I’m still waiting for this ONE commercial! I checked on ifilm but couldn’t find it! Good Luck!
I will not watch CBS again if your proposal is not aired.
OMG! good luck I hope this all works out for you!
JP, Forget the commercial. You and I could make a movie. Will you marry me?
I watched the game just to see your purposal. I hope I get to see it on tv.
I swear to god, if CBS does not air this, I am boycotting the network and letting everyone know what they did. There is no reason why they shouldn’t help you. I am only watching this game because of your commercial! Also, no matter what, your idea is amazingly sweet!
HURRY!!!!!! I am working night shift at the Hospice House….. We are all watching the ‘game’…..actually just waiting betwen commercials….
By the way, the commercials have been, for the most part, pretty lame and CBS should have just replayed “the proposal” over and over…….
I can volunteer to sit and cry at the wedding…I get teary eyed just thinking about you two!
GOOD LUCK!!!!
Been waiting. I think it is great of all the people supporting this. Especially you guys that are offering free wedding plans and photos. Can’t wait to see the proposal and to get the answer “YES”!!!!
Best Wishes
I am willing to attend your wedding free of charge.
Good luck.
I am waiting patiently for this one commercial.
I watching the game just to see your purposal. I hope I get to see it on tv.
YOU GO BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I normally don’t even WATCH CBS! I enjoy football, but honestly, the only reason I am watchin the Game is for the commercials…you’re in particularly.
I totally agree with the statememt that if CBS doesn’t air it…they are totally selfish. I mean, really….think of all of the bad press and the negative “attacks” they will get from other competetive networks (who most likely WOULD HAVE aired it) they will receive for NOT following through. I mean, come on…He was paying them for the airtime…
even those there’s only a minute or so left, Baltimore is pulling for you, dude.
CBS has aired the most ridiculously stupid commercials this game.
If they didn’t air CSI, I’d protest them for not showing your proposal.
Ok well that was really depressing. How are you gonna ask her otherwise?
My wife told me about your ad and she watched the game hoping to see your ad. I am really disappointed that CBS didn’t show it. You certainly tried. I hope things work out for you and the answer is YES.
how disappointing - nothing during the game, nothing yet on ifilm. I’ve been watching both.
for those that give you negative feedback on this - i say ignore them. It was an unusual and original idea that you never expected to take off. That it did was what made it that much more fun to watch. It’s nice to have something positive to follow - I hope to see your proposal soon and hear about her answer right after.
Look how many people ended up watching the Superbowl because of this… they should’ve aired it!!!!
I have no interest in football either, but this is the only reason why I tuned in!
I watched the entire stupid game, just hoping that maybe CBS wouldn’t be stupid and not air your proposal, but…. :[ no such luck. Is it going to air tonight on a different channel? Did you already propose? Did she say yes? Sorry, for all the questions — I wouldn’t have to ask if CBS hadn’t backed out! Keep us all posted! Good luck.
i dont understand football and i have been ignoring everyone just to hopefully see this…its so romantic and something extreme that i hope my future boyfriend would do….play it already cBS!!! goodluck jp =)
Sorry JP. It didn;t air. I guess it will have to work out some other way. Sorry bro, i feel you
I am so sorry to hear the news that your proposal wont make it JP…..I am just NOW reading it after I watched the whole game waiting to see it. I want to wish you the best of luck all the same and I truely hope that you have a back up plan that is equally as amazing as this one…you sound like an amazingly creative person and this story regardless of the sad selfish out come of CBS was truely heartwarming . TO CBS…..I’m am completely appalled at the how heartless and cold this decision was on your part. I can honestly say that I have lost respect for your broadcasting station and this will be in my mind from now on as I am reconsidering watching your shows. APPALLING AND SELFISH BEYOND BELIEF!!!!!!
I’m dying to know what’s going on! I found out about this through Entertainment Tonight and I was sooo looking forward to it! I’m so sad it didn’t happen during the bowl!
My wife and oldest daughter watched the entire game waiting for the proposal. My daughter started complaining about the absence of the ad in the 4th quarter which prompted me to go to this website. The game is now over and have not seen the ad–thankfully, my wife and daughter are football fans. As far as comments go, I think Tom’s offer to drink the beer at the wedding was a good follow-up to the offers from the wedding coordinator and photographer.
Take care JP and may your future see love and happiness.
Brian
I missed it !!!AAAHHH
I watched the game just to see your commerical. Hope to watch it on iFilms soon.
C’mon been waiting all day. I want to hear that she said yes. Best wishes and luck!
Click on the link below and send CBS a nice little message telling them how much you enjoyed their greed and selfishness.
http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.shtml
I guess I missed your commercial…what is the direct link to it so I can watch it, I was anxious to see it? THANKS!
Has anyone seen anything? I went to the iFilm website and I couldn’t find it. Does anyone know what’s going on?
How much do you hate CBS right now? Totally sucks that they were this selfish not to find the time to knock out GODFORBID a Coca Cola commerical there were only about 10 of them. This was the most romantic and original idea I’ve ever heard of. Oh well this is the only night CBS ever gets any viewers so I guess they had to be rude and honestly your the only reason why a lot of people tuned into the Super Bowl tonite. I had told so many friends that you were doing this and we sat around a tv to watch it. Damn it! So sorry babe. Tell me how to find it on ifilm, because I can’t. Also your site must be getting a lot of hits it was hard to link to. Best of Luck!!
My husband and I watched every commercial….(I am not even a football fan!) We couldnt wait to see it….AND WE WERE so so disappointed it wasnt on. If I had the money….I would have sponsored you holding my product and the ring…..Shit…what a marketing genius you are……
It was a missed opportunity for all which aired.
Hey jp! They still havent showed the commercial…. We practically watched it just for that! Probubly will catch it on You tube or I film Good luck!!!!!
We all kept watching, but no stinkin’ proposal!
i think the whole idea is so kool…i have never really watched the superbowl (since the 2005 one ruined my 21st b-day) but i watched the whole thing and NO PROPOSAL…where is it on ifilm? i can’t find it!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did they show it!?? We didn’t watch the SB this year… opted to take advantage of quiet malls and restaurants so we could spend the day with the kids.
Did they ever show it!?
I’m guessing it’s not on ifilm.com yet because it’s still going to be aired. I keep refreshing ifilm.com and new commercials are posted so I’m guessing they aren’t done yet.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Nice way for CBS to keep you tuned in for their other shows too, make you wait to see the commercial.
Congrats in advance.
Sorry that things did not work out as planned. Maybe something better is in store! Good Luck!!!
Ok, I taped the Superbowl game just to make sure I didn’t miss it…. I’m guessing it didn’t happen, since I didn’t see it.
OMG!!! i’ve been looking on ifilm and i cannot find your commercial anywhere. im so sad i’ve been waiting to see this commersila since i first heard about a while ago. please let us all know when u know anymore information about ur commercial like if its still going to air or where we can find. what is the name so we can all search for it. im dying to see it.
good luck with it all and i hope she says yes. u r so romantic for trying to get this to work.
I didnt see the commercial where is it?!
It’s unfortunate that we had to sit through such a bad year of commercials, repeats of those bad commercials, and a crapload full of repeated CBS promos to see if CBS cares. Apparently, so far they don’t care. I’m going to keep watching but not hold my breadth. Good luck to you JP.
JP, I cannot believe this was not aired….an absolute travesty considering the money was provided. I pray the best for you and your (hopefully) fiance.
Well, it’s not on TV, and it’s not on ifilm, so that means one of two things:
Either this whole thing was a hoax, or
She said no, and you don’t want to be embarrased. See, what none of the other guys told you (the REAL guys) was that this was a BAD idea, and she’ll likely say no! I just don’t get why guys like you like to put their woman on the spot like this during games and what not. It’s the most screwed up thing in the world, and I don’t get it.
Can anyone find it on ifilms? Let us know!
Maybe the commercial not being aired is the universe’s way of telling you to NOT propose to her. A cosmic hit over the head with a two by four. Marriage can be overrated, maybe you should consider this possibility.
i watched all the commercials waiting for yours, i guess it didn’t air. i don’t know why they didn’t air it, it would have been money!
still waiting for a posting on ifilm. disappointing. =/
UH……..so what happened????? I have seen/heard NOTHING!
Dude, wheres the commercial?! i was so excited for it. wtf. im gonna complain. 2.5 million dollars? argh i was wanting to watch it live. like yea. damn it. grr
Hey, I watched all the way thru the post superbowl game and I didn’t see anything.
I looked on Ifilm and didn’t find it.
Kinda disappointed that these big companies can’t spare 30 secs. All companies care about is money and airing commercials that are going to make them more money. Kind of sad.
I am getting married in June and I just want to wish you the best of luck with everything. And another hint - take all the free offers you get!! Weddings can be a little bit spendy and stressful - kind of like trying to scor a superbowl commercial!!
Can anyone find this on ifilms? Let us know!
So what happened? First, it was supposed to happen, then chances were “slim”, then it looked like “it might happen”. Now the game’s over and the hype fizzled. Did you propose or what?
i tried looking on ifilm.com and couldnt find.. hopefully i will see it later!
im sooooo sad i couldnt wait and i cant believe they didnt play it, where can i see it, i cant find it on i film????????????!!!!!!!!!!! hope all went well!
We were a tad bit disappointed that your commerical did not air especially with the publicity you recieved from many radio stations. Feel led on in a way making us think that this was not real to start with. Oh well made the game a bit more interesting for my girlfriend.
No proposal was every planned to take place. It was a gimmick so women would tune into the superbowl.
Hey man wish it happened. And to those of you who send it to the left I send it back to the right!!!!
JP, I hope everything works out for you. I can’t find the video on ifilms. Also, I just left feedback on CBS.com and would encourage everyone else to do so. They kept showing ad after ad for their crumby shows. With all of the free publicity they got for the Super Bowl, they could have done something to get your ad on, even if they sponsored you themselves.
Hey JP,
I hope your proposal goes well even if it isnt aired. CBS owes you an apology because from the looks of the previous comments it has, if nothing, generated more female viewers which I’m sure boosts ratings and the publicity has generated alot of donations for a good charity. It seems as though you have a very deserving girlfriend and she is very lucky to have someone who would go thru so much to make it an event she will never forget. Good luck to you both and you should definetly keep the site up and keep us posted on the progress of the wedding. Thank you for proving that there are REAL MEN out there.
Congrats!!
Sorry it didn’t happen…I can’t wait to see what does happen! I’m sure it will be great. We’re pulling for you on my site too.
www.theivyroad.com
Be well!
K
What? Did it air?
My mom even watched the whole game this year just to see your commercial. I am sorry they didnt play it for you. I got married a year ago and it is awesome. i wish I could have been as clever as you with your idea.
I hope your girl realizes how much effort you put into this. Best of luck.
Pete
I watched the game, with great anticipation of seeing your proposal that I had read about. I didn’t see it…hope that I didn’t miss it. Good Luck!
where is it on ifilm
Hey, I think it is very sad that it didn’t air like you wanted it to, really sorry about that. HOw are you going to do it now? That is what I am interested in, the new proposal! I tried to find it on ifilms and I had a hard time! Good luck to you!
It didnt get aired!!!!!
BOO CBS!!!!!!!!
I wish I was a millionaire, I would have made it happen for you.
We watched the game and were so disappointed that your commercial wasn’t aired. We’re wishing you the best of luck no matter how you end up proposing. Once you have popped the question we want to send your bride to be a Bridal Gram (www.http://www.shopgirlsnightin.com/bridal-gram.aspx) on us. She’s a lucky girl!
- The girls of Girls Night In, Inc.
What kind of idiots wouldn’t sponsor this? I can’t believe it didn’t air.
I love football but i am sorry that it was not posted i was trying to find it
I can’t believe it didn’t air!
It would have aired if the game was on ABC — owned by Disney…
and they always make sure dreams come true.
Even NBC or FOX would have probably aired it.
Just another reason to hate CBS and CBS programming.
What up JP?
Thats really stinks that your proposal didn’t air. I have been following you all the way and watched the entire Superbowl just to see your ad. I’m sure your wife is still thrilled you even tried doing this. Your my hero man, good luck in your marriage. And even better of luck to ever get it on CBS…maybe the honeymoon
).
Good Luck
JP,
Let’s declare a national boycott of CBS tomorrow!
You da man!
Bill
my girlfriend’s and i hushed all the men at every commercial break and we never saw the proposal! we were all so disappointed and the boys did not believe us that it was ever going to happen. sorry it did not work out, but annoyed that we watched for it so closely….
uuuummm…..did I miss something? Didnt see the commercial (and trust me …we looked for it) and now I cant seem to find it on Ifilm either. Whattup??
I watched the whole game just to see your
proposal only to NOT see it and its not on the link you posted I feel jipped and let down I watched the
game for nothing I could have been baking a cake.
I wish they aired it
I watched INTENTLY!
So when will the proposal be put on ifilm.com? I ran a search for it from your link, but I didn’t see anything that looked similar.
What happened…. did it air? I watched the game just to see the proposal… did I miss it?
hi i was really wanting to see the commercial and i cant seem to find it anywhere. I looked on ifilm its not there.
I have been following your blogs for awhile. Didn’t have time to get on the computer before the game. I watched all of it just to see your proposal and nothing. I am so sad. I am a hopeless romantic that loves to see people happy. I wish you good luck in the future. And please keep us updated and what’s happening. And maybe now you can introduce us to your wife-to-be!!!!
congrats! i cant wait to see the commercial! where will i be able to find it on ifilm.com?
there’s always next year. i’m sure she can wait just one more year. i waited for the commercial too and was let down when it didn’t show. prince was the only redeeming factor.
Not gonna lie, I CONTINUED to watch the Superbowl because of your “proposed” proposal. I’m thinking masterfully I have fallen for the hoax. But I suppose I give kudos for the marketing ploy, i’m sure women who could care less about football finally watched the BIG game. CBS must be happy.
“So he had this Web site called mysuperproposal.com, and his girlfriend found out two weeks into the process and she said, ‘No way you’re not doing this. I don’t want this, I’m too shy.” taken directly from the ETonline.com website article about the proposal.
BOOOOO!!!! I wanted it to air!!
And I totally don’t think that it is the same as proposing on a jumbo-tron…its so different. Way to think of something unique and clever! It’ll be all the guys that try to duplicate it later that will make it become lame….
I was disapointed that the commercial didn’t run. I was really looking forward to it. I don’t get why so many people are mad at CBS. There was so much money involved in these commercials that it had to be cut throat for who got a spot and a bidding war and every station would have been in the same situation. I definately think that your proposal got a lot of women watching the commercials though. I hope she said yes!
I can’t believe that they didn’t play your proposal, I sat and watched the whole game looking for the commerical. I am kinda sad that you didn’t get your wish, I looked for it on ifilm and didn’t see it posted on there either, I’m highly dissapointed. I’m sure Congrats is in line because you worked really hard to try to make this work, to bad CBS couldn’t help out in that deparment.
You were all over the media. I heard you on several different radio shows. How could your girlfriend have no idea what you were doing? Is she that much out of the loop? I can’t understand that. I could be wrong but, like many others, I tend to think it was a hoax. Yeah, you had your time to shine in the spotlight but its over now. Propose to her some other simple way.
Regardless of whether they didn’t have enough brains to take advantage of the opportunity or if this truly was a hoax to boost female ratings - I am furious either way. I hope the CBS peons are reading your blog comments to realize how much animosity they have now generated. And I hold Katie Couric personally responsible for promoting the proposal commercial in the first place. I will avoid that network at all costs moving forward - I can watch CSI on DVD.
Even if you and your girlfriend are imaginary, I wish you the best.
Shame on CBS. I watched the game just to see the commercial. I won’t watch cbs so much anymore. Shame Shame Shame CBS!!!
was this for real…i’m starting to doubt it bc it wasn’t even on that ifilm.com site you had put up….if it was, then good luck JP
Thanks for the link to WB, I got a few hundred people who emailed in asking them to abstain from showing this overhyped garbage.
“J.P.”…….Where are you???? Everyone is sitting here waiting to hear SOMETHING!!! Just a note to tell us to sit tight and wait or did you “pop-the-question”????
So… I’ve looked all over that site for the proposal and I can’t find it? Help!!!
Good luck, I hope congratulations will be in order soon!
good luck hopefully everything will work out this time..best of luck!!!!
so..anyone ever think that it was real and the people at CBS were just assholes? i think that this was the best thing ever. and i too, as with a hell of a lot of other people, am truly disappointed that the commercial was not aired. BUT..more power to JP. good luck withe everything! i really hope to see the commercial soon
What in the Shank happened? I shed a tear at the end when it didn’t air and I think it’s gonna lay heavy on my heart. I can feel a bad case of mild depression starting to kick in. What say you give the world a clue and post sumpin on your website to let us all know what was result was? I won’t be able to sleep til I find out. I’m worried sick and if you’ll excuse me I think I’m gotta go cause I’m gonna go throw up in the toilet!
Bobby Joe Drimble
Terribly sorry it didn’t air, I was telling all my friends about it!
Where is it on ifilms?
JP…I’m sorry that they didn’t air your proposal. That would have been really great to see. Good Luck with the Veronica Mars idea…I hate the show, but I may have to tune in just in case. I hope you’re in AL, so I can see it.
Good Luck with everything and remember…try this hard to make her happy AFTER y’all are married too.
I sent the following message to CBS:
“I like football. I am from New Orleans, LA and was pulling for the Saints to go to the Super Bowl. Since they didn’t make it, I wasn’t going to watch. However, I did see and hear about this gentleman who wanted to propose to his long-time girlfriend. I heard that he was raising money and sponsors to propose during the Super Bowl. I purposely watched the entire game (including the pre-game and post-game shows) to see this man’s proposal. I am extremely dissappointed in CBS for airing ridiculously unoriginal and repetitive commercials instead of being a pioneer and granting this man an opportunity to express his feelings. CBS, I could understand if you were not going to be paid for this, but come on, you were going to make money. To top it all off, you had several more viewers than you would have had, thanks to this gentleman. You would think that with ratings being valued so highly and CBS struggling to reach their goals, you would have thought this through more thouroughly. CBS used to be on the top of my and my family’s lists for television viewing, but as each season passes and events like these occur, we are no longer choosing CBS. I hope that my small voice can make a big difference.”
If this is a hoax, then kudos to you, the creator! “Fool me once, shame on you, but fool me twice, shame on me”….if it is a hoax, I won’t be fooled again!!
JP, thank you for giving a glimmer of light to us hopeless romantics!! Your girlfriend is a very lucky lady.
If anyone wants to comment CBS, here’s the link again:

Ok…So I looked up the ETOnline article mentioned above about the gf discovering it and saying no way to the whole idea…not true. “JP” was talking about a friend. I didn’t watch the game, nor did I want to. And after reading all these comments, one question keeps popping up in my head…”Exactly who are you (JP) working for? CBS? one of the teams? or someone else affilliated with the Super Bowl?
yah..im disappointed too..and im canadian..i dont get to see the US commercials so i was hopin to get at least an update if it happened or not. well, i hope it works out. i hope somebody will do a commercial coz even Canadians are waiting and watching!!!
I got my degree in marketing and if this was a hoax it was briliant. I hope not though.
Just sent the email to the WB/CW peeps…this things deserves to be nationwide! Good luck from Dallas!
(I do have to wonder how the time zone factor could play on something like this?)
I am sorry that they didn’t show your proposal, but you guys shouldn’t bash on cbs. You have to remember that this is a business and they had to make back what they gave to the nfl in order to hold the superbowl. Also other companies which had already taken all the spots didn’t give any up for the proposal.
Sounds like a marketing ploy for Veronica Mars.
A guy a few posts back named CP (at like 1:26am) quoted an ETonline.com article, but did so inaccurately. This is whole part of the excerpt he tried quoting,
[JP explains how he came up with the extraordinary idea.
“It started when a friend came up with the idea of, ‘I’ll propose to my girlfriend on the Super Bowl, and in order to do it I’ll raise money over the Internet and start a blog and people will donate money, and
I’ll buy a $2.5 million ad on CBS,’” JP recounts.
“So he had this Web site called mysuperproposal.com, and his girlfriend found out two weeks into the process and she said, ‘No way you’re not doing this. I don’t want this, I’m too shy.’
“He knew I was looking to propose and said, ‘Hey you should get on this.’ It took a little convincing, but then I saw this was something that could be fun.”]
Next time, post the whole truth.
And come on..I wanna see it so bad! Thats why i watched the superbowl too lol…ifilm.com needs to put it up soon! and good luck JP!
Ok, so now I just read that it is going to be on the CW??? Come on — what about all of us poor college kids who can’t afford cable? Will it still be on ifilm, and utube?
Well, I waited all game because I kept hearing on the radio about this guy who was going to propose… I tell you, Football ratings doubled this year because of all the woman, who never watch football, who tuned in waiting for the commericals.. I was one of them. Good luck Buddy, I hope everything works out for you and the lucky lady!
Hmmmm……Maybe just another “trick” to get those who might not normally watch to watch the Super Bowl ????? Could it really be ???
I watched the whole superbowl. It did not broadcast =[[
or did I miss it?
Get a refund since they didn’t show it. They ruined your moment. CBS f’s up during the SB again!
Yeah, I sent an angry email to CBS. I’m sure if we all do it will put a big dent in their conscience. Don’t worry JP, someone will air it. You’ve got so many people supporting you. Congratulations and I wish the two of you amazing happiness!
http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.shtml
I don’t understand what happened…
I was so excited to see your commercial and it was a major let-down… I went to I-films to view it, but it wasn’t there, and I’m unsure of when it will view. I can’t believe that you would be so inconsiderate to all those people who made donations, and all of the people who took the time to watch the commercials not to provide us with an update. Hope to get a response
I’m not sure if I am right or not but I think I saw the proposal in the prudential commerical, right??? because I did hear that the commerical wasn’t going to be about you but you would still be in it so you could have your moment. I hope I am right.
I think I saw the proposal in the prudential commercial, right??? becasue I did hear that the commerical wouldn’t be about you but you would be in it so you could have your moment, I hope I’m right!
I think this whole thing was a ploy by CBS to get people to watch all of the commercials. Well I’m going to pay them back by deliberately not purchasing any of the products featured in commercials yesterday.
What happened to the supposed marriage proposal during the superbowl??
what the heck, I was hoping to see it, JP why not post it on youtube.com?
What a let down. I kept falling asleep watching the game. Im a ravens fan so I could have cared less who won. I had everyone wake me up every time a commercial came on. Finally I couldn’t stay up any longer went home and passed out on the couch waiting through the last quarter. I tivo’d it and woke up just as manning was holding the trophy. I rewinded back through all the commercials and found nothing at all. Went to bed at 1130 feeling very disappointed. It would have been such an awesome thing to see happen live and real. I even saw some short clip in a prudential commercial of a proposal and thought, no way that couldnt have been it. So now what?
Props to the idea of this whole thing. I like to see people stepping outside of the box and bringing real life sinarious into the retail commercial avenues. This can possibly prompt some more creative ideas in the future.
I just thought that I’d let people that have read “CP”s comment know … that obviously he can not read in context correctly. On ETonline.com and his interview, that is how JP explains how this entire thing came along. His friend was the one that came up with the idea and his FRIENDS girlfriend is the one that found out. Jeez people … can’t you think that there are actually still good people in this world, and he wants to give the woman that he loves the best proposal of their lives? It sickens me to read comments such as “You are really going to have to work hard EVERY anniversary” but No he’s not! If she is really this amazing person that deserves what he is trying to do for her, she’s not going to hold something like this over his head and make him feel like he has to do something this extravagant every year. JP, I can’t wait to see your commercial even if it’s only on a website somewhere. Can you please post it here? Keep everyone updated … because there are people out there that believe in you!
Looking foward to you doing it during Veronica Mars. I’ll email my CW to help it go nationwide, too. Good Luck!!!!
One more thing, you should turn this whole thing around on CBS. Go to another network and give them an angle to reign over CBS and come out on top as giving the public what they want to see saving the day type of deal. Try ABC, I bet Good morning america, or Regis and Kelly would play it in a heartbeat. If your GF is a regis & kelly fan take her to see the show. Regis can play out one of those over the phone games, then the caller picks a number and low and behold it’s your girlfriends seat. They call her upstage, whola! you sneak out and get directed backstage and enter on cue through the entrance that the show guests come on stage and do your thing.
-kd, Baltimore
I would watch Veronica Mars to see your proposal….I watched the Superbowl to see it and I don’t like football. I was disappointed that they didn’t air it. CW should air it nationwide…they would pick up a lot of viewers like me…who wouldn’t ordinarily watch the show….but really want to see the proposal. CW couldn’t buy that kind of press. Be marketing genious for them. Good Luck no matter what happens. I wish you and your soon to be fiance all the best!
So, what happened? Anyhow, this was a good idea in theory, but very poorly executed. You started out with a dream and an idea. But in reality, you needed to have a clear plan and have things in writing before you started. Hopefully others will learn from the mistake. Good luck with the proposal, when/if it’s been made.
what happened to this whole thing?? i think u got sum xplainin to do?? All this hype and no damn commercial?? i love football..but i was also lookin forward to ur proposal..well hope it all works out..:)
Joyce
It’s the only reason I watched the game. Why couldn’t someone step up to the plate and make this happen? I could think of a bunch of companies that could have sponsored it. I hope I get to see the proposal though. Best of luck.
I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS, CBS IS CRAZY! MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, ESP.. WOMAN ACROSS THE WORLD WERE ONLY TUNNING IN TO SEE THIS PROPOSAL….I HOPE THEY REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT AND GOOD THIS CAN BE FOR THEIR RATINGS! THEY SHOULD BE MAKING A SPECIAL OUT OF THIS! GOOD LUCK AND HOPE TO SEE IT SOON IF NOT ON THEIR NETWORK BUT ON ANOTHER AT LEAST!
I am sure you ahve exhausted all the opportunities to get your commercial sponsored but it would be nice if you could get a Jewelry Company, like Kays Jewelers, Gordons, Zales, DeBeers etc. to sponsor your proposal and have it air on Valentines Day at this point. Just a thought. Good lUck and no matter what the effort you have put into this should count for more than you ever will know. I am sure she will say yes!!
Why is everyone bashing CBS? There’s some twisted thinking here. Why should they feel obligated to extend free air time? I’m sure there’s hundreds of non-profits that would have loved the opportunity as well. I’m not getting this — without a sponsor or a produced commercial, were you planning to air? Fill us in. I actually like the Veronia Mars idea better — it’s her favorite show — she’ll love it.
sorry dude
Oh man. That was a huge disappointment. I hate CBS and I’m never watching them again! I hope everything goes well for you and the future fiance, I just think CBS is ridiculously F***ed up and if only we could chose the things that do happen to us.
Dude, what happened to the commercial? We watched all the commercials (including the truly stupid ones) and never saw this proposal. Was this some sort of hoax spread by corporate America to get people to watch the commecials? If so, there were like 3 that were good during a 4-hr event. That’s pretty sad.
Be her Knight in Shining Armour JP, and I’m sure she will say yes to you no matter how or where you propose….. so sorry CBS didnt Care
They did have some “love theme” commercials…. Oh and dont let people get to you when they think this is a hoax…. always believe in yourself and others in this Life! Have Faith and Love in each other, your family, and in God and you two will have an awesome marriage…. Seems like you two are meant to be, so dont give upon that! The man I love hopefully will not give up on me and wait for me, because I’m trying just as hard as you JP to be with him, Michael my soulmate, for the rest of our lives….. As you Im waiting on a corporation to call me back concerning something….. so have Faith in God because all it takes is for you two to love each other and know in your hearts that no matter what…. as long as you have each other then you two can overcome and withstand anything in your life together as huband and wife! At least that is what I believe!
This was honestly the only reason I was watching the Super Bowl. What a shame CBS did not air it. Why couldn’t they just donate the 30 seconds? It’s not like it would put a big dent in their pocket. Have some humanity (and fun) CBS - and run the commercial.
People, people, PEOPLE! Good Lord man, please read the blog. Since CBS didn’t air the commerical, he hasn’t yet proposed…hence the NO VIDEO to be found. He still has to remain ananymous/hidden. He plans to run it during her favorite show Tuesday, (Veronica Mars) which may or may not be local only due to $$.
To Matt: Sounds like sour grapes…a little jealous? Denied one too many times?
To all the men who think this was a dumb/lame idea…just goes to prove you don’t know jack about women!!
Good luck JP!
My friends and I were soooo disappointed that we didn’t get to see the proposal! We kept waiting for it, and by the end of the game I was just getting angry at every commercial that came on that wasn’t your proposal! I even watched the Today Show to see if they would show it in one of their segments, but no luck. You should have gotten air time!!! All the other commercials were just boring and stale! We were all looking forward to your proposal (maybe more so than the superbowl itself)! I hope you were still able to propose last night! Best wishes to you both! Let us know when/if the proposal will be posted on ifilm.com and how to search it! Again, best wishes!
My husband I and were completely disappointed in not seeing the proposal. Everyone I talked to last night were furious it wasn’t aired. All of commercials pretty much stunk and we thought if there was a proposal commercial it would be redeemed. We are SOOOO sorry.
If I knew you the sponsor was that backed out…I would give them a piece of my mind!
Good luck with the proposal w/ the Veronica Mars show. It shows that you won’t take no for an answer!
hey i am so excited for this, but i was thinking yesterday: if you couldnt get it to air you could go to a jewler like kay or shane co or someplace and ask to propose to your girlfriend with one of their rings
Well I am super (pun intended) disappointed as is everyone else for the most part. I tried to go email the WB website for the east coast and it came back “undeliverable” for some woman named Corrine Hicks. I hope this isn’t some block the WB has put up to prevent the flood of emails that they are surely going to get. I will tune in tomorrow night no matter what and hope to get to see the most awesome proposal ever. Good luck JP!
I watched the game last night with a bunch of wives whose only reason for watching the second half of the game was to see this marriage proposal. Perhaps “JP” was just a marketing ploy on the part of CBS to keep the audience in their chairs. Or if JP is for real, then maybe CBS had no incentive to show the ad as long as the buzz was already out there and there was some ambiguity about whether it would show or not. Either way, there’s some sleeze going on here.
I was so disappointed!! I only watched the commercials in the hopes of seeing your proposal!! They ALL stunk…(well, except for those Budweiser crabs…that was pretty damn funny) but I was so excited to see your proposal!! I know when you finally do it; it will be all over Youtube. So, I’m not too worried about the local market thing. It will turn out. Good luck!
Oh and BAD SPONSOR!!! (pretty nasty thing to do to this guy!)
“Why is everyone bashing CBS?”
You are correct, CBS has no obligation to give away free airtime. HOWEVER, with all the hype from news stations and Enetrtainment Tonight, CBS did NOTHING to stop them from “jumping the gun” or give any indication to anybody that they were not intending to air it. They deliberately allowed misleading information to leak out all over the country so they could reap the benfits from it.
CBS isn’t stupid. They knew full well that millions of people were watching only to see the proposal. I feel they owed it to the other ad sponsors and the NFL to show it. If I was Anheiser-Busch, GM, or any other company that had an ad last night, I would think twice about committing to an ad next year because the ratings are going to be WAY down. A lot of people only watch for the great commercials and special events, which pretty much stunk this year. Interest in football is dropping, and last night’s misleading stunt by CBS just made it worse. By making my wife, and many other wives, sit through that whole game without seeing what they wanted to see, not good.
The NFL stood a chance at really increasing their market, but instead lost all of them because a lot of those people won’t give football another chance. I would compare it to NASCAR trying to reach out to African-Americans and then having the FOX network do something stupid like show an ad supporting the KKK during the Daytona 500.
This isn’t right we had a super bowl party last night in hopes to see your ad we mentioned it at the start of the game and we were diaspointed by the end knowing they did not show the ad
hope something good still happens to you
cbs knew this was a big thing for you they could have tried a lil bit more!
Hey JP,
Well I have to say that I have not been watching your website too much and i definetly didn’t know your proposal wouldnt be shown last night. I was so dissapointed….it was the only reason that i watched last night because i don’t really care for pro ball. Well best of luck to you on Tuesday! I hope to see it some how. God Bless!
Amanda
CBS
So, I take it it didn’t air, that sucks. Best of luck to ya pal, make sure to let us know when and if it does, and regardless of that, what she says when you do finnaly get to propse!
this sucks the only reason i watched was for the proposel…cause the game sucked the rest of the commerical sucked…so i guess this really was a hoa x to get women towatch
I’m glad you’re not giving this opportunity to CBS. They were CRAZY not to air your proposal on Superbowl. I have no doubt that I am one of many who watched the Superbowl for the sole purpose of seeing your proposal. I sat throught every play, hit, TD, commercial just to see you declare your love for you girl. And I was DISAPPOINTED! Not in you, but in CBS. It’s too bad that TV stations aren’t bigger risk-takers. They’d be a lot richer if they thought, to use an overused expression, “outside of the box”. And I like to think, in this case, they’d feel better about themselves. It could’ve been one of those great feel good moments, the kind you see in movies, and who knows, maybe if they’d let you do it your story would be a movie some day. Maybe it still will, and CBS will be the bonehead TV co. that lost out. I hope CW (whatever station that is) airs it, and airs it nationally. Never heard of Veronica Mars but you bet I’ll look for it and watch it, hoping to see the proposal. Good luck to you, and I wish you and your soon-to-be fiance all the happiness in the world!
Really too bad! I’m sorry! Hope it really does air nationwide during Veronica Mars. Good luck Mr JP and soon to be Mrs JP. Good try Mr. Morin.
Well I watched the Super Bowl for one reason and one reason only, and that was to see your commerical…that really sucked that it didnt air..well I hope everything works out..good luck
I didnt see it! I hope it goes nation wide on veronica mars!
i told all my friends about it and we were all really excited to see your ad… each commercial break they were like “when is it going to happen?!” i think that’s what drove them to watch the entire superbowl.. =) we were pretty bummed out when it didn’t see it.. at least we know why now…
Best of luck to you, Mr. JP… you’ve got a ton of people rooting for you over here.. =)
I’m sure you know this but CBS is the other owner of the CW. Perhaps your contacts at CBS (or ET - another part of CBS/CW) can help you out??? Good luck dude. I’m rooting for you…
My fiance works in advertising and when I told her about this, she told me you cant turn a local spot into a national spot. Local breaks are just that….local. The chances that CW will make the decision to move it into a national break is slim to none…but good luck anyways.
Are you going to give refunds to all the people who sent you money? As you yourself admit, the ad you’re allegedly now cutting isn’t costing very much, so surely you need to return some money, right?
for starters “you go Bucknut” If (some) men only knew. I think that it will be just as romantic being aired during “Veronica Mars” my husband and I love this show. I will be watching and not miss a second. Best wishes JP and all the happiness in the world. I am seriously going to send my complaint to the CBS web site. But I believe that all will work out, it has too. Anyone with a heart knows this.
Best Wishes
Samantha, TN
Makes me wonder if there was even a commercial to begin with…….although with all this hype it wouldve made sense for someone to take advantage of it………..either this could be the nicest proposal or one of the greatest scams
Well never heard of Veronica Mars, and Tuesday is all CBS in our house from 8 -10pm…. when I get the chance to watch my fav shows
So good luck and dont give up…. Life is funny and hard to explain but things always will work out when Fate has a hand in it…. Best Wishes and God Bless
Well if it’s a scam I guess shame on us, but to believe in true love and happiness…. well that’s not a shame…. that is what everyone should hold near and dear to their hearts…. especially today with it soooo freezing cold!!!
I’ve sent in my request to WB to see the ad. Good Luck!!!
That’s a pretty sweet move - Veronica Mars is the most awesome show. This may also help it out a ton since it’s in danger of being cancelled…
Dude, Seriously? Veronica Mars? If I’m being honest, it sounds like you’re making all of this up about the super bowl. How can you only afford a local spot on the CW if you were going to have a spot during the super bowl?
This doesn’t make sense. Anyone can afford to run a local commercial for a proposal (search youtube, there are plenty). Very few can afford a super bowl which is what made you unique.
Boo to you.
Freaking CBS. I tuned in *only* to see the proposal! I’m so sorry they’re cheap bastards.
Either way, America (…at least all of Vermont) is totally pulling for you! We’re sure she’ll say yes.
All the best to you! I’ll be watching Veronica Mars!!
so basically i watched the superbowl with high hopes of seeing your commercial and never saw it and now youre putting it on during veronica mars and only in your local area which means me and my friends who wanted to see this dern commercial wont. im sad:(
You are a class act…your girlfriend will be so touched. Even though the Super Bowl didn’t work out, the mere thought of all the effort you put in to this proposal is mind blowing. I’m sure she will be blown away…good luck to you!
This is so beautiful. We can’t wait to see it Tuesday night…disappointed it wasn’t on during the Superbowl.
An aside and sharing-of-happiness: My fiance and I are getting married later this summer. This is one of the most beautiful times in one’s life. I wish you all these blessings and happiness. Enjoy the moments, and keep doing what you’re doing. As you know, building a relationship is a journey. Enjoy that journey.
I’m glad to know you didn’t get the attention that you desire. Such is life as an attention whore.
The contact person for the East Coast is:
corinne.hicks@warnerbros.com
I am pulling for you!!!
XOXO
Best Super Bowl Scheme EVER!!!!…congrats you had everyone going…i mean come on there was no commercial and you’re in hiding…it was all a scheme and your girlfriend (if she exists) should be embarrassed…Don’t get me wrong if this guy is for real, fine…but honetly if you wanted this proposal aired then you would have fought for it…and $2 million for it all, if that were my man I’d be mad he spent it cause I could think of a lot of other ways $2million would make me happy…either way this guy is a joke
You’re a chump. Big national build up for nothing. I hope she says no. You’re as big a loser as Rex Grossman was Sunday.
Just as the best man, Peyton, won MVP in the SuperBowl, JP I’m sure you’re her MVP and somehow it will happen someway….just propose to her however you feel is romantic and grand as you want it to be…. sure she’ll love it! Yes watched the whole game! and it was awesome…. Blockbuster should of squeezed you into their cute commercial or Ophra and Dave talk about your superproosal…. or the Bud light crabs bow to you being such a romantic proposing to her…. so matter believe and it will come true! Good Luck and God Bless toyou both
Can you guys NOT READ?
The reason that all he can afford is a local :30 is because he’s donating all the raised money to CHARITY — while the original plan was to raise the $2Mil required to purchase a superbowl spot, the plan was REVISED midway through to donate the money, but obtain corporate sponsorship (ie, piggyback on somebody elses pre-purchased ad time). Thus, JP would not actually spend ANY money on the spot (the corporate dollars would cover that), and Vandy Children’s would still get a huge chunk of money as a donation.
Which is why the superbowl advertisers were not intelligent in deciding not to sign on to this opportunity — I’m in sponsorship / corporate marketing, and I can tlel you that this has all the makings of an excellent event-driven marketing plan:
Tugs on the heartstrings of America
Capitolizes on the family-oriented nature of Superbowl Sunday
Attracts female viewership not only to CBS and NFL, but to whatever corporate sponsor would have signed on
Vandy Children’s gets a HUGE donation, in partnership with corporate sponsor, without the corporate sponsor having to do ANY fundraising, thus evoking positive associations between corporate sponsors brand and philantrhopy in the mind of (mostly female) Americans everywhere.
Good luck, JD — your girlfriend is a lucky one!
~jessica
Seriously, get a life. Guys like you end up getting walked all over by their wives in the long run anyway. Your proposal and her response doesn’t matter to most people. Just get on with it so she can commence with her plans to cheat on you.
I would’ve been watching the game no matter what (I’m a gigantic Colts fan), but I told everyone I was watching with about the commercial, and it was a disappointment that they didn’t air it. Good luck with your new plan!
if this guy’s girlfriend doesnt know who she/he is by this point, then she is the stupidest person on the face of the earth.
seriously…she has a name, an approx location, a job type, a body outline(from the etonline report), a favorite-show hint, a colts-fan hint, INITIALS. she has INITIALS…how many JPs can there be?
seems like this guy is marrying a complete retard
What disappoints me the most about your blog post update is that you say “CBS called several times to say that they might air it” and didn’t. Meanwhile, they put a whole boatload of self-promotional CBS advertisements (some more than once!) that I personally couldn’t care less about. And when the game was over, they put on that salesgenie crap again and couldn’t put you in that spot.
Essentially, from my own perspective (and that of my husband and friend who were both watching the game with me) is that CBS never filled their ad spots for the Superbowl. Further, I’m guessing there were a few people at CBS who really felt for you, JP (and who called you), but the higher-ups didn’t air it on principle — if they air your commercial, then they’ll feel obligated to do it for others too. And of course, they didn’t want to do that because their airtime was valuable even though most of the commercials were god-awful.
This was my first and last time watching the Superbowl. From the other comments here (specifically from women who watched the Superbowl only for your ad to air), I don’t think I’m the only one. CBS screwed up bigtime.
Best of luck with CW. I would love to see this if it doesn’t go national; make sure you share it somewhere!
people people! this IS a hoax. it is a typical man who just wanted coax thousands of women into watching a football game!!
I hope she says NO……this is so stupid and ridiculous…you are a publicity whore just looking for attention….there is nothing sweet or romantic about it….it should be a special moment shared between the two of you and close family and friends
Very dissapointed in CBS. I am curious to know what stopped them from airing it.
I wrote a letter to WB for your support. I hope it all works out!
p.s. don’t listen to the skeptics - it’s easy to forget in today’s crazy world that there are still genuine people out there!
what a waste of money….like your gf doesn’t know it’s coming, why don’t you put the $$$ to good use instead of blowing it on something so frivolous and tasteless
I have sat in front of the tv and watched a whole football game just to see your proposal and NOTHING! I am so nooooooot happy with cbs.. they would have made last nights’ spots a little more memorable. Hey,at least I got to see Prince again (no wrinkles, wow!)
Since you are not gonna have your proposal in all tv, How about getting Comcast to put it ON DEMAND… I don’t think you are in Miami, there are no thoughtful and romantic guys here.
Oh! and by the way… Wedding dress on me at Rentyourdreamdress.com
Macky
we want to see it on Canadian channels too
i waited the whole game to see your proposal. I saw the interview on theToday show and told everyone to watch. I thought i missed it!! Well I have my fingers crossed for you she says yes!! She would be silly not to. Anyone who puts this much thought and effort into this has got to be a great guy!! Wow what are ya gonna do to top this? Your setting the bar pretty high for future anniversaries…. Good luck to you!!!
Any chance of getting it aired during Saturday’s Pro Bowl? I’m in Canada, and thus, do not get CW (but yet, CBS in high-def!). Good luck, and whatever happens, we’ll be rooting for you!!
I tried emailing the East coast rep for CW and it came back in an undeliverable message. I hope to see the commercial in Ohio!!! I watch the SuperBowl diligently and was very dissapointent as well. Keep us posted!!!!!!
CBS called several times during the show? Are they really that stupid? surely they know your girlfriend is with you
Sorry your proposal didn’t air during the Super Bowl (Stupid Bowl, perhaps, CBS?)
JP, I emailed Warner Brothers in hopes that they air your commercial nationally. I mentioned I had never seen Veronica Mars before, but would watch to see your ad. I hope enough people email them so they put it on nationally for you!
I think your girlfriend will be stunned at everything you have done for her, no matter how it finally happens. Good luck, my friend! I think you’re a real romantic! She’s a lucky girl!
I can’t wait to see the video, even if it is just posted online!
Good luck!
We watched the Superbowl just to see the proposal too! But my favorite TV show is Veronica Mars too….GO SAN DIEGO (they film it here in my home town). GOOD LUCK!!! My fiance and I will be watching!!!!
I’m really pissed off at cbs………………..:) GOOD LUCK THOUGH!
I’ve been so depressed about this whole thing now I’ve gotten very swollen and broken out in red hives. I’ve already thrown up 6 times and have heat bumps all over my face and up my nose.
My swivels are swollen like I’ve been bitten by the dreaded Titsy fly. Please hurry up and ask her so I can get some sleep. It gets a might bit lonely up here in these mountains and this all weighs heavy on Bobby’s heart!
Love hurts!
Bobby Joe Drimble
I hope it airs nationwide on VERONICA MARS. The show is awesome, and it would probably mean a lot to your girlfriend to have it air during her favorite show.
Plus, I want to see it, and my local CW affiliate is in New York (and since yours is small, I doubt that’s it.)
Hey man,
Just some FYI if you post the video on break.com and it makes the front page, which Im sure it will, they pay 2,000.
Later From AdsPros.com
I was a sucker. It wasn’t till about five minutes left did I realize this was just an advertising gimmick to get people to sit still during commercial breaks. Worked…kindof. I feel used. If it turns out for real, and it airs during Veronica Mars, great…but I won’t be watching.
I have to say that my husband and I sat through the game last night mostly to see the proposal, I feel like CBS may want to do a poll and see how much of their ratings last night could be contributed to you! Good luck, I have to say that if you love each other this much you’re going to have a great life together!
I really hope the spot during Veronica Mars works out for you!!! My friends and I watched every single superbowl commercial waiting to see it ..and never did-:(…So I really hope this works out for you now!! Best of luck!
Tom Lykus was right, this whole thing is just a creative advertising campaign. I especially like all of the advertisements located in the comments here. Pretty interesting, I’m waiting to see what the fallout will be.
he’s on the tom leikys show..lol
I only heard about your story late last week. I didn’t care about the superbowl and wasn’t going to have anyone try to get me to watch it So I scanned all the commercials online and didn’t see it. I think your proposal would have been much better than most of those lame commercials that they did air!
What a lucky girl your girlfriend is to have a guy that is so determined to do something great for her. I get teary-eyed thinking about how she’s going to feel after she finds out all that you’ve done.
It’s too bad there are so many people in the world that are so negative and can’t even think that you might be doing this for real. Those people need to get a heart and if they can’t say something nice then they should just keep it to themselves.
I’ll be checking back tomorrow and the next day to hear the final word. I wish the two of you all the best in life and love.
he’s on the radio right now..The Tom Leykis show right now.
Hey at least all you ladies got to watch a good game.
What if she goes to the bathroom during the commercial? That would ruin your life.
Still pulling for you Jp!!!
buena suerte!!
I heard about this from a friend and i was glued to the tv wishing that you ad came on.cbs makes me mad. but i cant wait to see the commercial. good luck
i dont get why people are being such jerks-perhaps you guys are jealous u didnt think of this idea first??? you think CBS needs to get more people to watch the superbowl??? 90 million isnt enough they have to try to get some non-football fans (esp. us women) to watch too? sorry they didnt air it and we had to sit and watch commercials air more than once and watch so many promos for CBS shows-but hey i actually watched the Superbowl with my hubby so he was happy
Whether or not the commercial gets aired tomorrow night, you have a website with months worth of stuff to show your GF-she will be so amazed it’ll all be so worth it! AND you got free wedding planning and photography
thats pretty cool! best of luck to you two!
I took Sams advice and wrote a nasty e-mail to CBS i encourage others to let them know how disgusted WE the public (the one who make their ratings) feel I like many thousands of people watched that whole game just for you I bet if someone would have had the right contacts even Prince would have proposed to her for you I personally wont give CBS another moment of my time I’ll wait for reruns on another station..
On a personal note J.P. I wish you and your future wife every
blessing and happiness in the world ,shes a very
lucky woman to have a man that wants to show the world how special his lady is to him..congratulation and best wishes to you both!!! ….Jenn from Alabama

THIS WAS MY MESSAGE TO CBS>>>>
I’m so disapointed to see the a company as large as CBS has no heart as much as you have the nerve to charge for a commercial spot in the superbowl you could have air this mans request to propose to is girlfriend, you allow a moment of prayer for those poor victoms of Florida and let people remember that besides all the hipe and glamour of a superbowl that in reality people are hurting and need prayer dont you think it would have been nice to for the public to share in the joy of this mans dream, in a world so full of dispare and termoil it would have been a breath of fresh air to share with the world 30 seconds of joy and hope with this man and his love of his life.. It is my hope that the J.Q. Public never lets you forget how heartless and greedy you are and boycotts your network.you should be asshamed of yourself and go out of your way and make this up to this wonderful man and his future wife for FREE!!!!!
good for you , I hope it works out!!!! I told everyone I knew about this proposal and even the guys thought it was an awsome idea (they are already married and NONE of them came up with an Idea as good as yours………GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I hate football, don’t know a thing about it but I watched the whole superbowl in anticipation of your proposal that I heard about from my Marketing teacher. Sorry you’re proposal didn’t air on CBS but I hope it works out for you after it airs during Veronica Mars(even though I won’t see it cause I’m in Canada)……GOOD LUCK!!!! Hope she says yes. ^_^
Dude, you such a friggin’ drama queen. Just do the proposal and stop draggin this thing out with all the commerical/contact the CW/superbowl crap.
those of you who think this is an elaborate hoax perpetrated by cbs are seriously deluded. the super bowl commercials are a well-hyped phenomenon as it is, and they air during the most-watched sporting event in the world…i highly doubt that cbs did this just to wangle a few more people into watching the game, and the commercials. not that cbs cares if people watch the commercials, since the companies already paid for the airtime anyway, and were more than happy to do so.
Good luck, JP! I’m pulling for the CW execs to come through and air your ad nationwide - this will be a fantastic opportunity for their network to get some exposure. And CBS will be kickin’ themselves once they read all the publicity CW reaps from your commercial. (Serves them right!) If you do get this commercial to air nationwide during Veronica Mars, I bet that’ll make it even *more* special to your girlfriend than the Super Bowl, since your proposal will come with HER favorite show.
One question: Didn’t your girlfriend wonder who kept calling you during the game?
If you raised $75,000+, how can you not afford a nationwide ad on the CW??
it would work for CW as this would be the first time i would ever see veronica mars. we watched all the way through waiting to see it happen yesterday. sorry it didnt. what an awesome idea. i proposed to my girlfriend (now wife of 12 years) in stage downtaonw atlanta on new years eve in front of 250,000 people. that was pretty cool!
Good Luck! I can’t wait to see the commerical. Sucks that CBS wouldnt buck up and just air it. They had so much “filler” for their own television show ads they obviously had plenty of time for your ad which would have been much more entertaining.
I think if you love her and you want to marry her it doesn’t have to be spectacular like being on TV. She will treasure the moment no matter how you do it if she really loves you and wants to spend the rest of your lives together.
Donate the money and just go ahead and propose.
Good luck!!! Don’t make her TiVo it so she can see all the commercials!
To all the people that think this is a hoax by CBS to draw people in…get a frickin’ clue! You obviously have no business sense. Oh boy…they’ll get a few hundred more people (women) to watch the superbowl! Gee! That’s genius! Now all of the execs can retire. Think about it…the majority of the “new” woman who watched the game are probably living in a household where the man of the house is ALREADY tuned in and watching regardless of a commercial. The only difference being that the wife/GF sat down beside him. This does not equal a “new viewer” to CBS. Doesn’t make sense. Not to mention the fallout against CBS (as seen here) after they don’t air the commercial. Gee…I bet they didn’t think of that. Not to mention that the audrience draw was the same as last year.

THINK people…THINK! I beg of you.
And once again, a few people are showing just how jealous they are of JP. To those people…please deal with your own insecurities ASAP! Oh…and I love “GLAMOR” calling someone else a drama queen - LOL!
Good Luck JP! We’ll be waiting for the video!
I was soooooo disappoiinted that the proposal didn’t air - that was the only reason I watched the superbowl. Good luck tongiht. Looking forward to updates.
I hope people see through this hoax and boycott Veronica Mars tonight. This is just a desparate attempt to get some better ratings. I doubt you have the courage to post a dissenting opinion.
JP, don’t listen to any of the negative comments you’re getting… It is noble and amazing and revolutionary to let True Love guide your life. Keep following your heart. In the meantime, we can’t wait to see the proposal - wherever and whenever it is - we hope you post it on your Blog. We’ll be watching Veronica Mars tonight and hoping that the proposal makes it through to the national network. Best of luck to you, buddy!!!
dude- how about an explanation as to what happened- you were on the don and mike radio show talking about how not only did you have 1 DEFINITE sponsor, but you now had MULTIPLE big companies fighting to pay for your proposal. so uh, what happened.
signed,
one of about 4 guys to post on this comment section out of 200 yentas
Hey Man…
I am so dissapointed in what happened with CBS…I congratulate you on your success though, (hopefully) with Veronica Mars tonight…
Jessica inspired me with her offer of free wedding planning, which is very sweet of her. I would be glad to photograph your wedding FOR FREE if you would so choose as well.
I know you can’t reveal your I.D. but if you are in the San Diego area I would gladly photograph your special day for you, free of charge.

What happened to the commercial you filmed with a coporate sponsor? Seems to me that you got caught up in the moment and lost your chance by not signing with a sponsor when you were given the opportunity. CBS is not to blame, it seems that your plan backfired and people are looking for a scapegoat. Propose already and get it over with.
This is a hoax people - wake up and smell the flowers. This is nothing but a hoax and promotion to promote Veronica Mars. It’s simple bait and switch tactics, nothing but promoting Veronica Mars.
All of you are fools
Wow Bucknut, you’re that blind. Must be the estrogen. You women are the reason scammers exist. You’ve all been scammed. Where’s the donation money? If a sponsor put up cash for the commercial, why does he even need the donations? Last I saw there was a counter showing how much he’d received..75K i believe. Where’s that counter now? This guy’s on his way to the bank, thanks to all of you suckers who gave him money for his proposal.
Oh but the money will buy him another commercial…Haha, the one he statede will cost 1/4 the price of a diamond ring? So that leaves 74K in his pocket. Thank you women for thinking with your emotion rather than your brains. You’re the reason scammers do what they do.
Hoax or not, I just want to see the ad on ifilm. That’s all I ask! (Even if the CW spot was national, it would have to be INTERnational for me to see it!
Veronica Mars Rocks. A show like that should have amazing ratings. I don’t even care if this is a hoax.
LoVe forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
silly women, this guy is for real. and he donated all the money to the VCH. this was not a scam.
I am dying to know if this is going to be on… I live in Orange County, CA…. will it be airing in my area?!? We tivo-ed the SuperBowl just to see this commercial.. and obviously didn’t see it! We’ll be watching Veronica Mars.. or atleast recording it so we can just watch the ads! Keep us posted, I am sure I’m not the only one sitting here and wondering whats going on with this! Good luck!
Really, how stupid can you be to think this is a scam to boost televesion ratings? Also, why not just wait and see what happens after tonight since he said he was proposing tonight? Why assume that it’s a scam and that he’s not going to donate the money, etc., until after tonight, when he said he was going to propose?? Yes, he did initially say the proposal would be Feb. 4 during the Superbowl, but for whatever reason it didn’t work out, so why not just give him a chance? Maybe there WILL be proof he donated money to the Vanderbilt Hospital. If you didn’t want to donate any money–fine. I didn’t. Don’t complain about the people who wanted to donate and did. Is it affecting you somehow?
How do you people think this is a hoax to promote Veronica Mars? It was never intended to be shown on the CW, and it’s not like the fact that it may air nationally on the CW has been promoted.
I’m not denying this might be good exposure for the CW, but they didn’t come up with the idea. JP came up with the idea to do something spectacular for his girlfriend, and if you have nothing but negative comments then why bother posting?
Daily SearchCast, Feb. 6, 2007: Google’s New Link Reporting Tool; Google Penalties Roundup, Headlines To Hook Linkbait & More!
Google Webmaster Central has rolled out a new tool allowing site owners to view and download backlink data far beyond what the old link: command offered. Think you’re penalized in Google? How about a checklist of 25 potential filters to check against?…
I’ve been so DEPRESSED about this whole thing goin back and forth. I still keep throwin up and my heat bumps have gotten super swollen. My snippers are quite a might bit swollen also and mighty tender too.
I used to could feel good before all of this commotion, now it pretty much has my bowels in an uproar. Is it really gonna happen tonite or am I gonna have to sink even deeper into depression from being left high and dry. My heart is so broke up out of all of this marriage to be or not to be stuff.
And by the way, all of us folk that has been here typing away on this site, what are we gonna do with the rest of our lives when the things gets fixed? Up in these here mountains, Bobby Joe’s heart is mighty broken! What else can I worry myself sick over? If you’ll excuse me, I have to run to the bathroom again and go throw up in the toilet!
P.S. (Minus one is better than none!)
Bobby Joe Drimble
Dude, I never heard of your super proposal and disappointment until yesterday when I heard you on the Tom Leykis Show. I still must say that you did piss off a whole lot of people. It probably isn’t your fault, but you did lead on so many people with your commercial. Hoax or not, you need to deliver something. You can’t waive candy in a baby’s face and say, “cant touch this!” I’ve never heard of Veronica Mars, but I’m going to TiVO it so I don’t have to watch a crapy show. 1st time in my life I’m going to fast-forward through a show for commercials. I really don’t have anything better to do.
Hey,
I just hope that i am able to see the proposal. Even if it isnt national I think that you should post it on this website or something after it happens. If it isnt national, then dont forget about us people who cheered you on and watched these shows (superbowl and veronica mars), just to see YOUR proposal. I think it is only right that you keep us posted and let us know how it goes…thanks,
PS. Good luck and go get her.
i watched veronica mars tonight and i didnt see the ad did i miss it. can anyone e-mail me and tell me im from the east coast and i didnt see it anyone who did see can e-mail me at patskma@adelphia.net
This is just a marketing ploy to get people, especially women to watch the super bowl and now this so-called Veronica Mars.. Please dude stop wasting people’s times saying that you were gonna propose and CBS called…blah blah! you’re full of it and you know it. What’s next? oh Veronica couldn’t show it due to legal reasons but it’ll be in Oprah..stop the BS man, and ladies please grow a brain and see this for the fraud it is.
She likes Veronica Mars. She’s a keeper.
[…] So there was this guy who mounted a big campaign to propose to his girlfriend on national television during the Super Bowl, and he actually got pretty close to his goal, with CBS apparently calling him multiple times throughout the game to say his ad might air. […]
