The Goal - To Propose to My Girlfriend on National TV During the 2007 Superbowl in Miami

In the Beginning…

It was just an idea, and a bit of a crazy one at that. I’ve been wanting to propose to my girlfriend for a while now - we’ve been dating for longer than the average courtship by a good shot, and I’d finally made up my mind - this was the girl for me for now and forever. The question was - how to do it? How could I do something truly unique, spectacular and worthy of the way I feel about her? Being a huge NFL fan, and having a girlfriend who actually gets excited about the Superbowl, I figured the best thing I could do would be to propose to her on the big game - in front of the largest audience of witnesses to an engagement in history. I know… It seems a bit far-fetched. But with the help of the web, anything is possible, right? So my geekery took me straight to the site, where, amazingly, the buzz began to grow. We raised over $75,000, got mentioned in several press articles and it looked like things were taking off - until…

The Problem

All the Superbowl ads for 2007 are sold out, so barring a wait until 2008, I needed another solution. Thankfully, the outpouring of support from the web community came just at the right time. New friends from around the web united and rallied behind the cause, helping us to secure potential deals with existing advertisers - that’s right! One of the already locked-in Superbowl ad buyers might be willing to give up their slot and sponsor my proposal. But I need your help!

The Solution

All it takes is press. At this point, advertisers are already interested in letting me propose on their commercial time; but they’re holding out to see how much buzz the idea can generate. So how can you help? By linking to the site, mentioning it on your blog, in your newspaper, on your radio show or podcast or TV program. If we can get just a little bit of help kicking up the dust, this dream could become a reality.

Money Raised to Date

As of right now, we’ve collected in excess of $75,000. We could use these funds (and any additional) to help buy out an existing advertiser, but we’d have to get all the way up to $2.5 million and convince some Madison Avenue types that it’s not worth advertising on the big game. So, for right now, we’re planning to donate the funds to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital - one of the nation’s most important facilities for sick and suffering kids. I’ve never wanted to make money out of this project; just make a proposal, so unless the funds can somehow help with that goal, they’re going to Vanderbilt.

Please do help out by showing your support for the hospital and this project by donating through the site. I think that one of the most amazing stories that could come from all of this isn’t just the proposal on the Superbowl, but a huge donation that could help makes children’s lives better. Thanks to the thousands of folks who’ve already given money and here’s to hoping there’s thousands more ahead. I’m planning on making a big donation myself in time for the holidays (using my Xmas bonus).

I’m going to need to see some pictures of this woman you intend to propose to before investing my cash in your project

2. JP - October 4, 2006

I’m sorry, man. I can’t do that.

I can’t run the risk that she finds out about this prior to the actual engagement…and posting her picture on the site could definitely increase the odds of her hearing about it.

Dude - This is the coolest thing I have heard of….I proposed at church…but if you do rasie the 2+ million to air a :30 sec ad….you will proppably end-up with a TV show…so ask ABC, CBS, or FOX to buy the airtime for you…

looks like your trying to buy her love or trying to raise money for yourself lying about what touches peoples hearts.

either way 2.5 million is better spent on other things that an ad for a girl. your crazy!

Just invite her to go with you for a week in Paris in March, much more romantic
and will only cost a couple of thousand dollars. Nobody that watches the Superbowl
cares.

17. Philanthropy_needed_in_world - November 29, 2006

Idea is cool. Big Big surprise. Why dont you just ask the commentators to call out her name and say a line for you in the stadium?
Instead have 2.5 million vouch for you in mail or cards.. that might be easy and sweet. as far as $$ goes, I am sorry but there are lots and lots of things that can be done a whole village can be fed in Africa fora year with thsi money. If it took you so long to decide about this woman, Do you think you need 2.5 Mil. she should be happy just to finally hear you say the words? :o )

18. Svetlana - November 30, 2006

Why don’t you try to get one of the Advertisers to put you in the commercial? Everyone will watch and they will get a lot of press for doing this for you.

19. Christina - November 30, 2006

I THINK THIS IS AWESOME, AND SO ROMANTIC! First of all, if he posted a photo, then it wouldn’t be a surprise for her anymore, would it? And since when is a children’s charity a waste of money? There is no better gift that my fiance could give me than helping all of those children. This is the Christmas season. A time for giving, love, and faith. If this were paying for the ad, then I wouldn’t donate either. But it’s going to charity. I happen to support Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and all of the wonderful things it does for children, and I love this idea. I hope you make your goal!

20. Ashley - November 30, 2006

Oh, give me a break! This is ridiculous. Do you realize that the majority of the female population finds marriage proposals at sports venues to be laughable? Why don’t you have some dignity and propose in private or somewhere special to HER? Do I even need to point out that this is an enormous waste of financial resources? $2.5 million? Or that it would be impossible for the people who are foolish enough to donate to verify that you are giving the money to charity? This isn’t romance, this is shameless self-promotion.

21. Cricket75 - November 30, 2006

I agree with Christina! You men are idiots! Waste of money? It would be if he went and begged all these people for money to spend on himself and her and their honeymoon! But no! He is going to give it to charity…and not just ANY charity, but for sick kids! That is a clear message! This girl knows that if they were to have kids, and if one was born with special needs, she knows that he will be a great dad! Great idea! Don’t listen to the men’s comments, listen to the women! If my man did something crazy like that, I would know he was crazy about me. Plus, doing something awesome with the money like that for kids is something to melt a woman’s heart. Good luck!!!!!!!!!! I hope she says yes!

22. Lisa - November 30, 2006

A proposal does not have to be expensive or well-planned to be romantic–nor does it have to be so public! My now-husband undermined his own planned, public proposal for something more spur of the moment, which I’ll remember forever.

He proposed at a bridge (I knew something was up when he started glancing around to make sure no one was watching us) and recited by favorite Shakespeare sonnet “…that in black night my love might still shine bright…” The water was dark and inky and sparkled from the light reflected from the bridge and the symbolism of crossing a bridge together bowled me over. We were both broke students–I an English major, and he an engineering major–and couldn’t even afford a ring (he took a silver band off his own hand).
When we walked back to his apartment, he brought out a small, wrapped box with a pearl necklace in it for me, and started feeding me soan papdi (an Indian sweet).
Just then, his three roommates came in… “Are you going to ask?” “Are you going to ask?”
One of his roommates girlfriends noticed the pearls, and groaned. “We’ve missed it already.”

It turned out, my husband had undermined his own, planned, rather public proposal for a spur-of-the-moment one that came from the heart. We’ve been married for four years now.
I think that proposals should be intimate, between two people–not between two and a crowd. There will be enough time over the length of an engagement for well-wishers to cheer you on. And as for the price? It’s the simple things that matter most.

23. Kirby - November 30, 2006

Hey man I would donate but I’m currently setting my extra cash back for a proposal myself…I must say you got my idea beat…I was just gonna take my girl to the beach. I really hope it works out for you. Has got to be the most unique thing I have ever heard of…

24. Christina - November 30, 2006

I hope that you raise 2.4 million so that it won’t be enough for you to propose during the Super Bowl and then all of the money will go to the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, because that would be a better memory for both of you, helping those children out. You can propose to her anywhere!

25. Superbowl Super Proposal - November 30, 2006

Ok, so this guy here wants to propose to his g/f during the super bowl. Do you think this is a waste of money? Do you think it is romantic?

26. Isaac - December 1, 2006

Has this guy offered any actual PROOF that this is really for a proposal/ charity, other then simply his word?

27. tam - December 1, 2006

On Your Side-December 1, 2006

Good luck man, I have been with fiance for 6 years now, engaged for 3 of those years. A superbowl proposal would be nice but at this point he needs to just set the date and buy me a new ring because I wore this one out. I would be happy with any kind of proposal with a date behind it.

28. Emily - December 1, 2006

I think everybody is missing the point, actually 2 points…the point is it’s a grand gesture of his love (it happens to be the grandest of the grand)…but his girl will get that and be touched…honestly who wouldn’t melt at the thought of the love of your life going to such extremes…to tell the world he loves you…football fan or not….she will be speechless…

point 2…the money goes to charity…and one the best ones…the Vanderbilt children’s hospital…if you’ve ever known someone whose children have been there you would know its an incredible place and a worthy charity…they make miracles happen everyday…and support families who have a real fear of losing what means the most to them - their children…

As a woman, I think it is incredible what you are doing to declare your love…and i think the fact that you are will be making such a sizable donation to Vanderbilt is absolutely awesome…you will be making a difference in hundreds or even thousands of lives.

You are doing a very awesome thing! And i am sure she will say yes!

29. beka - December 5, 2006

I think that the notion of corporate sponcership is the best bet. I also think that the best part of the proposal idea is that it is CREATIVE! So, points to you Mr. X. (Creative is awesome, bummer it costs so much.)

Your idea happents to be very costly - but that is what the big company sponcership would be for.

I think that if you were to propose in an ad…or a series of adds…that company would get tons of press. I imagine that people would be wondering if it was for real, I imagine there would be some news paper articles about it, it would be in the media for quite a while after the “big game.” And each time the proposal is mentioned…the company that sponcered you would have to be highlighted as well. It could be a very good thing for them too. So, in my oppinion, some company should snatch you up and use this as their chance at more press then just a few seconds on TV…

Go corporate sponcership! And then all your funds can go to Vanderbilt.

Best of luck! (PS I first heard about this on 710 KIRO radio is Seattle.)

38. Sceptic - January 2, 2007

No way mate. You have just done yourself a buissiness here probably already getting a lot of money from your ads and the PR you get from this, in my oppinion, silly idea. I know that people might think that a woman will be more impressed and more likely to say “yes” the more wicked the proposal is, but hey, face it…. a woman will say yes to you and to a life long marriage to you, if you are worth it. Spending millions on a stupid commercial will not make her love you more.

You wont show us a picture of her when we ask for to be shown what we “invest” in, we don’t know you by real name. This smells a hoax to me and you are only exploiting peoples’ good will.

But if im wrong, good luck mate, and may you live happy ever after!

39. BananaPancake07 - January 2, 2007

Why would you want to do this… what if she doesn’t see the ad? Does she even like football? If she truly loves you then you wouldn’t need this big elaborate proposal to get the girl. I personal think that this is a big waste of time.

For the people that gave money, all of you are morons. Why would you give money to this guy you don’t even know. You all are Crazy!

How bad would it suck for you if she said NO! on national television. All that time wasted.

Well good luck.

40. CooCooCatchoo - January 2, 2007

I totally agree with BananaPancake unless she has told you before that she has dreamed of that kind of proposal. But I don’t that happened. Maybe you should just try something else.

Allaround the world the news has spread.. all the way from the states to a little small cold country in the europe, sweden. I hope everything will turns out the best way for you.. and I dont know if I thinks its just a waist of money or not, but anyway. If you make it - you rock! :P

(the most expensiv proposal ever)

48. mike - January 2, 2007

why buy a commerial spot during superbowl for 2.5 million when you can have one hour on the swedish local radio station radiosydväst 88,90 for 150$

49. Kim, Sweden - January 2, 2007

This is outrageous. People are starving and dying all over the world - and you prefer to be a big egoist and do a thing like this!? It’s because of people like YOU a vast majority in Sweden despise Americans. “I want to make the most public declaration of love in the history of mankind”.

50. Kim, Sweden - January 2, 2007

….good luck, approximately 50% of all American marriages fails. Love is bs.

51. Cecilia (Sweden) - January 2, 2007

I love it! It’s very romantic. Just make sure that she’s watching! =) This is getting so much publicity that I’m sure you’ll be able to get the money.

52. Wow - January 3, 2007

FANTASTIC idea! I mean, you covered the largest newspaper in Sweden… what can stop you? http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyheter/story/0,2789,966211,00.html Hmmm.. I wonder how my guy is going to pop the question? He says he want’s to embarras me in public… I’m thinking SUPERBOWL! ;)

Good luck! This is a great way of showing her how much you love her.

53. Daniel (Sweden) - January 3, 2007

Kim,just because you have that feeling against Americans, dont think the whole Sweden agrees with you. You have no right to speak on behalf of whole Sweden
Maybe you should look yourself in the mirror before you start talking. What have YOU done for the starving and dying people all arund the world. How much did you spend on christmas gifts this year????? Why didn’t you give all that money to needing people instead. But maybe you did, because your perfect right????

Keep up the work, hope i will see your commercial when i look at the Supoerbowl this year.

54. Morten, Denmark - January 3, 2007

Hmm…interesting idea. Not so sure if it is a good idea though. I mean, it would be horrible to see it fail, and even then, why is this way better to propose? Ask her the normal way, the old-school way. It’s more romantic, cheaper, and you don’t run the risk of being ridiculed by the entire country.

And in response to Kim from Sweden, this isn’t really egoistic, just a strange idea. Those 2,5 million dollars might have been used to save starving poor african people, but you know what? It’s more likely that they would have been used for candy, alcohol, and fast food. He isn’t asking us to send in one billion zillion dollars that he can use for various shady purposes, no, he is asking us to for one day give up our candy money and send them to him for a hopeless romantic idea.
If you hate americans so much, then go do what they aren’t, make your own website where you ask people to send you money so you can help the poor and starving. At least this guy might be giving some money to charity. That’s more than this money would ever have gone to.

55. Amber - January 3, 2007

Cute Idea. But I have to wonder about how much you really love this girl.
Because love isn’t about how much money you raise. And its not about How much publicity you get. The Idea is very special. And any girl in her right mind would be knocked back by the amount of time and energy and money spent on this… But it doesn’t mean she would love you any more or less for it. And it wont make up for past mistakes either.

I hope you do get your spot on the air. Because anybody who would spend so much time and effort on something deserves to see the fruit of their works.

However, I really hope you consider the fact that, you have 75,000 dollars in your pocket that could help you and your girlfriend start a new life together.

I just got married a month ago. We had a beautiful ceremony. And an amazing reception. Our reception was at the second most expensive hotel ballroom in our city. All in all we paid over 10 grand for just our reception. And Ill tell you. I wish we hadve kept that money for ourselves and spent less on the pomp and circumstance.

Just give it some thought.

Poll: Super Bowl ‘Marriage Proposal’ Ad Project

Be Part of the News:
VOTE IN THE “AD AGE” WEEKLY ONLINE POLL
> BACKGROUND:

Inspired by Alex Tew, the 21-year-old who recently made a million dollars by selling “pixel advertising” on his home page, an enterprising groom-to-be who will only identify himself as J.P. has an internet business consultant helping in an attempt to recruit corporate sponsors for his planned marriage proposal as a $2.5 million Super Bowl ad. The anonymous digital entrepreneur has set up a website, MySuperProposal.com, to promote the effort — and the site itself has already raised about $100,000 toward the project. J.P. says he is donating all money raised to a children’s hospital. Repped by consultant Joe Morin, who has spun out additonal video production and product-placement plans for the undertaking, J.P.’s marriage-proposal-as-an-ad project has been pitched to marketers including diamond retailers and Las Vegas hotels. The stunt has thus far put J.P. on five radio stations and “Inside Edition” is reportedly planning a mention of the project. However, there IS the questi on about whether J.P. is real or just another Lonelygirl15 — a faux average Joe. But Mr. Morin claims J.P. is legitimate and quite marketable. Is this project something you think a big marketer should spend millions to be part of?

> THIS WEEK’S QUESTION: Should a marketer with a Super Bowl spot turn over the time, or part of it, to “J.P.,” who says he wants to propose to his girlfriend during the big game?

> VOTE & COMMENT on this issue for possible publication in next week’s

57. George - January 3, 2007

I just made a donation to the Human Fund in your name

58. mystery - January 3, 2007

Didnt any of you read the article? He said he does not believe he will reach the 2.5 million and is now just trying to get on a commercial. He is planning on giving the 75000 to charity. How is it egotistical. He also said in the article that his girlfriend loves the superbowl. Some of you seemed to need that clarified. Also, I love how a lot more women than men think this is a great idea. Keep in mind, he is proposing to a woman. Maybe the men are just jealous? (that was in jest, before you get all riled up)

59. DAVID F - January 3, 2007

I think the majority of you are taking this the wrong way. He is really looking for a sponser and the money he has raised is going to a great charity. My daughter was born in Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital. The actual money for the add will be paid by the sponsor. No one cares when budweiser spends 2 million on a frog ad do they? Great idea and good luck

60. Tommy - January 3, 2007

Budweiser ads serve to increase the profits of Budweiser.

Proposals during the super bowl serve nothing more than ego.

61. quaile - January 3, 2007

Ha. Have to love the kind of people the internet brings out, eh? Don’t listen to the negative people. I wish you luck…I’ll be watching.

62. LS - January 4, 2007

hey this is a great idea you want to know something funny i actually thought about this myself like 2 days ago and today i readed in the postit was unbeliable i was kind of upset cause i thought i was the only one that would think of that. i really wish you the best of luck dont listen to the negativity just know that other people like me would do the same thing GOOD LUCK.

You should have just played football for Boise State University.

64. Anonymous - January 5, 2007

I know I’m late here but i just caught wind of this and i think this is AWSOME. From a woman’s point of view the only think we care about is the proposal, the ring and the wedding. I would love for my guy to make this much effort to make his love know. JP, I hope this works for you, if not I’m sure your fiance will appreciate all the time and effort you’ve out into this for her.

Early Congrat,

SB

65. Amanda - January 5, 2007

Wow!! I can’t beleive how mean spirited some people can be! I think what you are doing is GREAT!! I wish my husband would have done something like this for me! This will definetly be something she will remember the rest of her life and something to tell the kids and grandkids someday. And let’s not forget the other great thing…giving money to sick kids!! Congratulations and Good Luck!! I hope she says yes!!

66. Dirk - January 5, 2007

This is obviously a rib. How can you be garnering all this media attention, doing radio shows, etc.. and your fiance NOT know it’s happening

67. Dee - January 5, 2007

If this works, I’m sure it will generate much more publicicty, up to the point where you could get anything you wanted for the wedding all free of charge. I just read this story in my newspaper and know it will get lots more attention. Good Luck

68. k - January 5, 2007

I think that is the sweetest thing in the whole world. After she sees the website and all the effort you put into this she will definatley know how much you love her. Tell this girl she better treat you right bc that is the most romatic thing i have ever heard. Good luck

69. Fromplanetearth - January 6, 2007

You are a real idiot. Use the money to have a good life, or for your children or grandchildren. Think down the road, not today. If you still dont care, donate the money to a charity in your girls name or a annual award or scholarship. Send 10 underprivlidge kids to college for 20 years in her name. I mean, a commercial. You must be kidding.

70. Alan - January 6, 2007

Dude, I’m think the idea is awesome !!! I will FOR SURE watch it !!!! So, the only thing I can really say is “DON’T DO IT, NO, NO, NO !! STAY SINGLE… SHE CAN’T REALLY BE WORTH ALL THIS !!! Oh, and do you know if she really wants to marry you yet?? Oh boy, that could be embarrassing if she said NO.

good luck

71. Belinda - January 7, 2007

That is the most unromantic thing i have heard of in a while.

72. Nancy - January 7, 2007

JP, I hope you the best. Great idea. All the negative comments are missing the point about the money. And as far as all the negative feedback from women, I think they just wish someone would do this for them. Jealous. My husband and I got married at the rodeo two and a half years ago and a lot of people think we were nuts, but everyone had a great time. And we have some awesome pictures to look at now. Plus, every year at the same time there’s another big “party” for our anniversary. Kudos.

73. Sierra - January 7, 2007

Its a cute idea - but maybe just a little over-the-top. Why don’t you just make a “commercial” yourself with whatever you would like to say to her and then play it for her during the superbowl? You don’t have to go to such extremes to make an actual commercial to show her you love her. Besides if you make it yourself, she may find that it means a lot more and is coming from the heart. Plus its a much more frugal approach :)

74. Kelvey - January 7, 2007

OK so I am a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and I think it’s a great idea, it just better not be a scam because I am sitting here at work looking at the cutest blonde little boy who is soo sick and just wants to go home. And there are so many things I can think of to do with the money to help the kids and their families go through the worst days of their lives in the hospital.

75. JP - January 7, 2007

Kelvey - It’s great to hear from you! I just spoke to a lot of the folks on the business side at Vanderbilt this past week and I’m trying to get an initial donation of many of the existing funds in the account (after all, they do no one any good by sitting around in Paypal).

Do note that much of the money is in the form of “pledges” - meaning that businesses and individuals are promising to donate if the commercial actually happens. But yes - please ask around at the hospital if you’re curious, because a donation should be on its way!

76. deanne bell - January 9, 2007

77. rocky balboa - January 9, 2007

I proposed to my girl just like that during a fight , meow…

78. Kim ILLINIOS - January 9, 2007

It’s not about buying the love it’s about what extent you would go to for this person. It’s the hope that there are some nice people still out in this cruel world that won’t give up 15 seconds of laughter for love. They can afford to show the same funny commercials before the game when everyone is still watching. Showing this proposal will show men and women out there that marriage does exist. If those sponsors are so money hungry and can’t support love then why should we buy there stuff. I think that They will earn alot more buyers by showing that they are willing to throw $2.5 to someone in love. That must mean they are willing to spend a fortune to make their product the best and they have love in their hearts for us consumers. If you need support talk to me.( THE ONLY ONE THAT BELIEVES THAT THIS PERSON IS GOING THROUGH ALOT OF YOUR B/S JUST TO SHOW HIS LOVE WHAT HE WOULD GO THROUGH TO BE WITH HER.)

79. Kim - January 9, 2007

If your all worried about this charity then why don’t these doctors work for free in this world and let the government cut them a break. Come to think of it, it’s us humans that refuse to help the sick. It’s all about the money and not about the volunteer work.

80. Christina - January 9, 2007

Okay. They’re even talking about you on radio stations, it’s CRAZY. Dude, you must be SO lucky to have a girl who loves football. (Being one of those girls, we’re a rare breed). It’s a good thing to know that she knows what a first down is and doesn’t think that football’s about flipping a coin and “getting the quarter back.”

Anyway, dude, I wish you ALL the luck because this sounds like a GREAT idea. Don’t let people think you’re egoistic. Your girlfriend will know that you’re not ashamed or embarassed of loving her.

And I think it’s great that you’re donating to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. My little brother is there with severe burns from a fire we had, and it would just be great to know that somebody cares.

Wish you all the luck, JP.

81. Nicholas - January 10, 2007

This is just too good to believe… I think you can do it..! If I’m not wrong, I think I just saw your interview on Good Morning America… I’ll write about this, and hopefully send some traffic to your site…

82. Six Degrees of Inspiration» Blog Archive » A Superbowl Proposal - January 10, 2007

[…] If you’re not a sports fan, even you know what the Superbowl is and how big it is. It’s literally the biggest, most sought after, and most expensive time to air an advertisement. The estimated cost for the proposal according to the guy will be about $2.5 million, which he was trying to raise through his website “My Super Proposal“. […]

83. RM - January 10, 2007

From a practical persepective: there are so many other things that can be done with the $$ that would benefit the good of those in need everywhere. Really kind of churns my stomach that someone thinks nothing about asking OTHER people for $$ to support something as impractical as this. If you have your own $$ that’s one thing, but to ask other people for it is kind of pathetic.

From a female perspective: anyone that is married has a story to tell about how our husbands propsed. I don’t know anyone that would change it!! My point being it doesn’t have to be over the top to create a lasting memory. There are so many creative ways to propose that don’t require a “stunt” of this magnitude. It’s all about what is special to you, and you don’t need a lot of $$ to make that happen.

84. Inett - January 10, 2007

I think it is a awesome idea. I hope you can do it. I came across this on abcnews.com. I think it would actually be a great commercial.

This is soo over the top, but if it’s what you want, GO FOR IT! In addition, if you can get somebody else to pay for it, then more power to you! True, there are a million other things that you can do with that money, but oh well… Im sure you’ve given this a lot of thought and consideration, and I just hope you guys are truly meant for each other, and I just can’t see how there’s a possibility for her to turn you down!! Good Luck to you both! And even though I’m not a sports chick, I’ll definately be watching!

87. Jim - January 11, 2007

I sent this out to many boards/blog sites to spread the word, link, etc.

Good luck!!!

88. MH - January 18, 2007

Well for all those that are against the idea…WHO ASKED YOU? If you don’t like it don’t bother wasting the space on the page. AND…if you are going to blast the guy for wanting to do this, at least spell your words right and use proper grammar. I mean seriously. I think it’s romantic and special for him. So to the proposer, “Go get her.” and to the opposers, “Shut up.”

89. Bulge - January 19, 2007

90. Robert - January 19, 2007

JP.. I hope this all works out for you… It seems like a tremendous effort on both your part and that of your “team”.

To those people posting repetitive negative comments about the reasons and the use of the donations… look around the site a bit before you speak with no basis… 2.4 Million to a teriffic charity..

You should be proud of this accomplishment… Im sure that she will be as well.

My wife and I have been married for 7 years (happily) and we now work together in a web business. I showed this site to her and she insisted that we offer our help if you need anything with regards to maintainance or design. (http://www.LiveIdentity.com) Send me a line from the contact page there (mention who you are) and we would take great pride in anything we could do to help you make this happen.

PS.. we live maybe 20 minutes away from the stadium

91. Marie - January 19, 2007

I think that it is so awesome that you want to show your girlfriend how much you love her by making such a big deal. Your awesome!!! All women secretly hope their boyfriends will come up with the best proposal. I think she wins.

92. Wendi - January 19, 2007

93. Katie - January 19, 2007

Hey, don’t get me wrong. This is an awesome idea but there are some faults. We don’t really know who you are, and we don’t know if this is really going towords your lives together. What are we going to benefit from donating our money? A commercial dedicated to someone besides us?? Not that it’s all about us/me. I’m all for donating the money to charity. If my guy did this for my I would go nuts! It would be insanly romantic. Just knowing he spent nearly what…a year? planning my proposal…wow. Personally, I think all of the negativity has persuaded me to not beleive, but I do. I think this could work. These netoworks are loaded!!! I think they can forfeit some time out of a year for this. They say this is when everybody is going to see their ads, but the truth is nobody really cares. They advertise ALL year long and to tell you the truth, I don’t buy any of it. NOBODY CARES!!! Not many people can go out and buy cars everyday so I think that it would be a good way to get more publicity for the networks. Props to you man!! $2.5 million is a lot of money and I hope you raise it/get the slot in time for the game. I would donate myself, but I’m only a teenager and have to save up for my own life. Good luck ^_^

Wow! That is the most wonderful thing I heard of how a man will propose to his girlfiend. I would wish that when my msn does that it will be a public place, like if we were out for dinner, or walk in downtown something like that. I think it is great your taking time to do this whole big thing. I heard about this on the Ottawa (Canada) Hot 89.9 raido. I hope that you get the money raised in time and that she says yes. You must really love her.
Good Luck

103. Shan - January 22, 2007

I couldnt even stand to read most of these comments. Many of you are being extremely rude considering if you dont plan to donate any money, this does not affect you in any way! This man is doing an amazingly special thing here. As for those of you who say that women dont like sport venue proposals…You dont know this woman-he does. Besides–No one has done something this huge before. He has put a lot of thought and countless hours of planning into this-he obviously knows its something she would really enjoy.
Then there are those of you who are saying there are better things to spend the money on. I disagree! He is donating the money to children! What better way to spend that money could there be? Hes not taking the money to buy a huge super star style ring. hes giving it to kids–which will be that much more special to her because she devotes her time to kids! Many of you are quite heartless and have not a romantic bone in your body!

Dude-GO FOR IT! I will be rooting for you all the way! I think this is a great idea. I only wish my fiancee was that creative:)

106. noneya - January 22, 2007

How about this one…. if you love her, REALLY love her like you say you do. Why on God’s green earth would you want millions of people to donate to a freakin proposal when there is millions of other causes needing this money. I really hope that you don’t get enough money so that what you have made goes towards something worth while! And to the people who have donated… how much have you donated to Katrina victims or childrens hospitals or cancer research?!?!?!?

107. Mark - January 22, 2007

Some people have a problem with the term “romantic.” Not sure how this is a “romantic declaration of love.” It really fits more into the grand-standing category. To each their own, though. Best of luck!

I heard this morning on 100.3 WNIC in The Metro Detroit Area. I also think it is a great idea and wish all the luck in the world. Sounds as if it will pan out and the story will continue for awhile. Hey JP! Just heard about your plan on B96 this morning. I think this is truly a very romantic idea. My husband proposed to me at a Cub’s spring training game in 2005 and it was such an amazing experience. I know what you are doing will be unforgetable. Good luck!

122. not interested in RI - January 23, 2007

I think you have an ego that needs to be stroked. Women are proposed to every day and they don’t need “national attention” to make it one of the most special days of their lives. What makes you two so worthy of watching this???

123. Nikki and Michael - January 23, 2007

I hope it all works out for you. it is a great idea and don’t listen to what others say. If you want it bad enough, you can make this work.
this woman is very lucky to have you in her life. I don’t see why she wouldn’t say yes!

124. sms - January 23, 2007

I think this is a really sweet and wonderful idea. If she truly is excited about the Superbowl and knows anyting about football (or any sport for that matter), she’ll be speechless. My husband had to drag me kicking and screaming to a Valentine’s dinner to propose to me b/c I didn’t want to miss a Syracuse basketball game. Little did I know what his true plans were!
I do hope you are able to get your commercial spot and, if not, I think giving the money to a worthy charity is very honorable. Regardless, you’ll have a wonderful story to tell your friends, kids, grandkids, etc.
Best of luck and please keep the site up and post to it how everything works out.

125. Dr. Drew - January 23, 2007

You can propose to her on my front lawn for half that price. I’ll even throw in a complimentary balloon.

I did something similar…and she said yes. Then a year into it, she was producing her own movies…only I wasn’t in them…if you follow me here. The bigger you make the proposal event - the harder it is to escape things that come back to haunt you. I “knew” she was the one, too. Don’t kid yourself, brother.

You don’t have to be a superhero to love her just right. Consider the following: Do you want the proposal to be the highlight of her life -or- do you want the rest of your lives together to be a constant build. You make that event the highlight…and your marriage is going to eventually be rather lackluster in comparison. Save something (of yourself) for the life you plan to spend with her.

I’m not saying don’t be romantic - make it important…but don’t make it something you couldn’t repeat on any given day and out-do yourself. Do what you’re capable of doing in only a day’s work…because at the end of the day, your life, with her, is only going to amount a series of them.

Either way, I hope it works out well.
You can keep the balloon.

126. Forgiven - January 23, 2007

I think if somebody has the gutts to put this much effort into something this life changing, Nobody should sit around down grading the effort. People seem to be to harsh when somebody puts effort towards things that matter. Yeah y’all wake up and give this man a break. DON’T be rude!!

127. Jeff S. - January 23, 2007

I think this is an awesome–albeit bold and daring–idea. You sound like you have your head screwed on straight, and I’m encouraged by your determination to remain committed to her through anything. Learn to make her more important than yourself, and you won’t have any real marriage problems at all. I do my best to keep my wife first, and (even though I mess up) I’m still as happily married after nearly 6 years as I was on day 1. Best wishes to you both!

128. Paris - January 24, 2007

Like, oh my god. That is totally awesome! I particluarly like the irony of making a $2.5 million proposal cheap with all the publicity and hype.

129. Melodie - January 24, 2007

I can’t believe the amount of money you have raised and I commend you on planning to donate it to a worthy cause if enough isn’t raised. I would like to know how you got your site (and donations) to the level it is. My husband and I would like to adopt a child. While we can afford the raising of a child, we cannot afford the $30-$40,000 it will cost for the adoption proceedure. My dream has always been to adopt a child in need of a loving family, and perhaps if some people are willing to donate for a marriage proposal they will be willing to donate to help a child in need.

130. .Radical_Edward. - January 24, 2007

Complete waste of money! Look around the world and find a cause who could seriously use some cash!

136. Zeke - January 25, 2007

I love football–I cry when football season is over. But my husband didn’t need to propose to me in some big elaborate way. He was the most romantic man in the world when he asked me to marry him. He said things that came from the heart, that made me cry (yeah I cry at sweetness) and he placed that ring on my finger and I said yes.

For you to seek out an extremely large amount of money from strangers, so you can propose is insane. If she already knows about it, then you should just say screw it and do it the old fashion way.

For your sake, I hope she says NO! You will then be the laughing stock of the entire world…Forget Janet Jackson’s boobie being shown on tv, you will be remembered as that lunatic who proposed to his girlfriend on national tv and she said no and ran away.

Not very classy…What ever happened to go ol’ fashion romance? Dude, this is a lost cause.

137. hopelessromantic - January 25, 2007

I got sick of reading rude comments from people who don’t know how to use punctuation and grammar. So if this has already been posted, I’m sorry. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,245366,00.html
Some (as yet) unidentified company has given him the airtime - and apparently the girl’s reaction will be posted on YouTube (probably with the commercial, as well).
I am a girl who doesn’t really like football, but I go to Super Bowl parties to hang out with friends, and I watch the game simply to see the creative and entertaining commercials. I will be glued to the TV this year so that I can catch this commercial - and lots of my female friends will be too! This is a brilliant move on the part of the advertising company, and an extremely creative and gutsy move on the part of the groom-to-be.

To all those who have complained that this is a frivolous waste of money, and it should have gone to poor and hurting people who truly need it, 2 things:
1. From what I have read, this is not his own money he is spending. The advertiser paid for the spot, and would’ve spent that money on the spot anyway. I hope he does donate that extra money he raised to charity as he promised.
2. Many Americans donate very generously to hurting and needy people. I challenge you to join them. Look at your own life and spending habits - do you wear nice clothes, go to restaurants, have an expensive entertainment system to watch this Super Bowl on? Instead of pointing fingers at others’ excessiveness, look for ways that you can spend less money and time on yourself and more on those who need food and shelter and love.

138. Michelle - January 25, 2007

I completely agree with hopelessromantic. This is such a smart move for anybody who is involved and this guy will get a lot of recognition from it. Not in a selfish way, but in a heroic way. If you think back to how you were proposed to, I’m sure it was very touching and special, but this man is doing something that is HIS special way of telling his woman how he feels about her. It wouldn’t matter if he was proposing at the icecapades or something like that. He’s taking the time and effort to do this special thing for his woman and it’ll mean the world to her. And there have already been a bunch of people who have said that they’re going to be glued to the TV, so that they don’t miss it. Personally (and I’m sure a lot of others will agree) I think this may be the best Super Bowl ever and will talked about for years to come. This is awesome!

139. cag - January 25, 2007

To the posters of this board. I appologize for having to address this issue here but I found no other way to address Melodi.

Melodie,

As an adoptee and a birth mother i found your post appauling. There are plenty of “free” (for lack of anothe word) babies through DCFS. there are deaf babies, blind babies just waiting to be adopted. If you were to have your own child and it were not perfect would you not love that child just as much and adjust to the disability the child is born with? These are babies that need homes that no one wants to adopt. The majority of adoptive couplies only want the healthy white babies therefore the cost is 30 - 80k.

Maybe if you were willing to take a child that needs a home instead of trying to find a child for your home you would find that you could afford a “free” child and most courts will do the adoption pro bono.

Sincerely,

A First Mom
(Adoptive parents will always be second parents given the child is born to the natural or first parent it has ever known.)

Hope things go well for you guys! Isn’t fantastic that people all the way in GERMANY have heard about this? Yes, I’m in Germany.

For all of you that this this is a big waste of time, money etc. He’s doing it for HER! He wants to make her proposal special. 146. Anonymous - January 26, 2007

I think this is so romantic. I wish you the best.. Any girl would be crazy if she did not say yes. You are a hopeless romantic, which is VERY rare to find in men!! She is fortunate to have found someone like you. Just knowing that is what you want to do, and that it was your idea, should be enough for her to say YES! I dont understand football, but I will def. be watching it, for the hopes that your commercial will be on!… Millions of girls want their men to be original and romantic… knowing someone will be getting that.. gives us hope that we might get that too, one day!.. i wish you the best on that day and years after!

147. Cathy - January 26, 2007

Hey there JP. First off as a woman that told her man to be original with his proposal when we started discussing marriage I give you credit.

For once there is a man willing to get as creative as possible to not only let her know how you feel and how special she is to you but also to make it as memorable as possible.

I just wanted to let you know I posted a thread on the wedding forum I belong to. You have all the ladies buzzing about this one.

Heck if nothing else you are helping the NFL do the one thing they have been trying to do for ages and that is get us ladies to sit down and watch the game. Now in the past we had not reason to aside from the commercials but now I know many ladies that have gotten wind of this that will be sitting in front of the TV on Superbowl Sunday and watching the game for nothing more than to see this happen for you.

I hope that this works out and that she is thrilled to death to have this kind of proposal.

Check out our thread:

http://www.weddingannouncer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9093

By the way I will also put your site on my website. just need to figuere out the best location so it gets a lot of press and a lot of hits from my site.

148. Cathy - January 26, 2007

Just wanted to let you know and let all the others who support you in this that if they want to help here is an idea I took upon myself.

I contacted as many of the companys running ads this year in the superbowl suggesting to them to support you.

Those Company’s Are:

Pepsi
Nationwide Insurance
Burger King
Budweiser
Dove
Emerald Nuts
Aleve
Ford
CareerBuilder
Cadillac

149. M. Basham - January 26, 2007

Way to go Cathy…I think your support of JP is awesome and JP I love your idea. I think that if you aren’t supported then the big companies passing up this opportunity are not very smart…Furthermore I agree with Cathy’s statement about the women watching the game. Personally I don’t watch for any reason other than the commercials and even those have been so pathetic that I haven’t watched in over 3 years. Until now. I am planning on watching just to see what happens with your proposal. And, I am certain that I am not the only one who feels this way. Best of luck and love!

150. LeeHi - January 27, 2007

How will we know if this whole thing is for real? Will we see a view of the two of you during the game?
Romance is nice & I wish the best for you and your girlfriend; God bless you both.
But I want to see THE GAME.
Did you try calling a day-time talk show? THOSE SHOWS would love your idea.

151. Dr. Love - January 27, 2007

Dude….this is the single coolest proposal i’ve ever seen….

i was thinking of doing mine with TWO rings in like 10 years… but this is cooler.

Good luck bro, if i was old enough to have a credit card i’d help you out!

The Doc

152. Anonymous - January 27, 2007

The more I read into this the more it smells like a professional marketing strategy. T-shirts, hats, coffee mugs. Radio, TV, internet. The same strategy used prior to the release of the Blair witch project. Fool the public into believing the story is true then sit back and count the cash. Sorry suckers you’ve been fooled again.

153. politesisters - January 27, 2007

jp-i think this idea is GRAND! i hope she is as ecstatic about your idea as every hopeless romantic woman searching for true love. we’ll be watching, hope we dont miss it. good luck and god (or whoever you believe in) bless!

154. MEGHAN - January 27, 2007

HELL YEAH BOY! I think this is a fantastic idea and anyone bashing it…well screw them! They are just mad because they didnt get to the idea first…and i do not think it is a waste of money because I’m sure she will be 100% satisfied. Good luck and I hope she says yes!

155. ottdawg - January 27, 2007

great idea, brilliant. i will do my best to spread the word. Colts 32 Bears 3

156. Henry H. - January 28, 2007

157. ...a person... - January 28, 2007

158. Cathy - January 30, 2007

By the way just a little update. I posted your website on my front page (welcome page) of our website.

http://enokidawedding.weddingannouncer.com/

I am hoping this attracks even more attention to your website. Can’t believe it is this weekend. Hope all pans out.

Best wishes.

159. T-Mac - January 30, 2007

Back up plan- take an old jersey and write on the back… Will you Marry Me? Wear it game day and when you get up turn so your back is to her and ask her if she wants a beer (hopefully she will look over and see the shirt)… when you come back have the shirt turned around and be on bended knee with the ring. And word to the wise… if she is as special as you say, it really won’t matter how much it all costs, just that you asked and it came from the heart. Good luck!

160. leana Gonzalez - January 30, 2007

Hi!!!! I wish you the best luck ever….
This site is even in all over the Spanish Radio..Is great men!!!!!

161. Jodie - January 31, 2007

162. Ken & Jane - January 31, 2007

Hey JP, since building a great relationship also involves creating wonderful memories, then you are making a wise investment - - - Well Worth It. You ROCK with magical style, courage, & large-scale creative imagination!! Hugs from us both…

163. Allison (Australia) - January 31, 2007

Good for you and I hope you are ignoring all of the people that are trying to impose their lives on yours. Some people never see out of the rut they live in and reach for the stars!

You only live once!

166. Terry - January 31, 2007

I bet there are about ten thousand girls who read this and secretly think to themselves, “yes, I can’t believe my boyfriend is going to do this for me.” And then those ten thousand girls are going to be upset, and in return make the superbowl miserable for thier ten thousand boyfriends. Thanks alot man…….

Nah, I’m just kidding, Good luck, I hope you achieve your goal.

167. Lindsay - January 31, 2007

What size ring are you giving her???

Go BEARS!!!

169. Melissa - February 1, 2007

Hey JP,
I heard you on 97.1 today. You sure did sound familiar:) The girl you dated before this one wouldn’t happen to be, “Sweet Melissa”,eh? Well, if it is you, I always thought you would pull off something like this. That’s great! Congrats!

170. Sara - February 1, 2007

Good Luck & I hope to see you proposing to your girlfriend in a commercial during the Super Bowl this weekend!

I have followed your campaign since October, and working in the advertising/marketing field I think that this is a great idea, imagine some of the potential sponsors (or other groups and their respective agencies) are wishing they had come up with this idea themselves, and overall think you have generated a huge amount of buzz/publicity!

I am sure your girlfriend will be excited and extremely impressed no matter what, and I wish you both a lifetime of happiness :)

Good luck in your final few days before the “Big Day” and again, I hope the rest of the country and I get to view your commercial (and one of the most unique ideas I have ever heard about)!

171. Erin - February 1, 2007

JP, Opinions are like butt holes, right? All of those people critizing you are the smelly ones! So is this a go? At what point in the game will it be aired? Congrats!
So excited!!
Erin

172. m1e1b1s1 - February 1, 2007

Hey there…
Been married 11 years here…and you go….what a great surprise for her….I hope she says yes….i’ve heard through the grapevine you got the spot and advertising paid for….you did a good job!

Don’t listen to everyone…..

I hope you have a great life together and of course…that she says yes :-)

We’ll be watching……
PS-if you need help with anything…hollar! I LOVE surprises…and weddings are my absolute favorite!

173. Taylor Potts - February 1, 2007

i think this is a cool idea and i hope she says yes to you……..good luck on getting that cash i cant really help out tho cuz im broke sorry

174. Rebekah Watson - February 1, 2007

oh my goodness that is sooo sweet i hope that she says yes. I know that she will like it because almost every girl would like to be proposed to in a huge romantic way

175. Steve Ny - February 1, 2007

Sorry to say this has DOOM written all over it. Even if she says yes… You two will have one hell of a time making it to your wedding. At least half the country will judge her as being unworthy, and you as being stupid. There’s so much drama planning a wedding, but you’ve signed yourselves up to be the most scrutinized wedding in history.

Can you two survive months of media coverage prying into your personal lives? Are you two happy? Is the wedding still on? Why aren’t you married yet?

Headlines: $2.5 Million Fiancee caught cheating!, $2.5 Million Proposal down the drain after fiancee catches him with her sister, etc.

You’ll probably end up on Oprah, Leno, etc. Which will only paint an even bigger target on your backs. Everytime you walk down the street people will whispher there’s the crazy dude and his gold digging fiancee.

I could go on and on. But, good luck. Hope you survive the train whreck waiting to happen.

176. tara - February 1, 2007

To each their own.

I see people leaving you messages saying “Girls will like it better if you propose in private” and “She will this is a grand gesture of love”…
I trust that you know your own future-wife better than any of these people trying to give you advice. If she’s into football or the superbowl, and even if she’s not…wether it’s 2.5 mil. or if it’s free…
none of that should be a deciding factor. What matters is that if she will like the idea, because she’s an individual person and you know her best! And if you’re jumping at the once in a life time opportunity to be able to do it, THAN WHY NOT?! Not only will you go down in history as “The guy who proposed during the nation’s largest televised event” but in the end you’ll both be happy. I’m glad for you that you are making such an effort to do something special for her. It’s simply amazing! BEST OF LUCK! We’ll all be watching at my Superbowl Party and cheering you on! (no pressure) haha.

177. Kelsey - February 1, 2007

I think this is great. I know it is Thursday, but I’m still hoping that somehow someway this will happen.
(I heard about it on my local news station in South Carolina and just had to find out more.)
Anyways, don’t bother listening to all these people who are bashing your idea. They’re probably just jealous they didn’t think of it or they’re upset because they know they’d never be proposed to in such an amazing way!

Good luck and best wishes!

178. stacy - February 1, 2007

I haven’t had time to read the comments posted on this page. If this has not been addressed, you should really consider the tax consequences of this “gift” of donation money. Also, what you are trying to do, in my opinion, maybe something to remember. However, I predict that this will be just one of many “big” memories. I think that is just how you do things….Good Luck

179. ~TpZ~ - February 1, 2007

way to go man. i had the idea but 2.5 million is far enough dream for me an add in national tv held my back. i didnt want to ask for money from people to propose to my girl. but i appreciate what you are doing. best of luck and i better see you sunday on tv.

180. JENN - February 2, 2007

I THINK ITS A SWEET IDEA… GOOD LUCK TO YOU….

182. Anonymous - February 2, 2007

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!

183. Stephanie D - February 2, 2007

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!! I luv it! Good for you.
With only a few days left I’m sure this is set to air as I’ve heard a ton of press about it. Although I may be the only girl at the party actually there for the game, I’m getting pumped for this. My girlfriends will be watching the game in anticipation because of this - or is it bec we can’t wait to laugh at Federline…..

184. Doug - February 2, 2007

Good luck with this!!! It’s YOUR proposal….its YOUR life…its your idea…its YOUR love. Its slightly obvious some of the people that have commented above are angry and bitter who just want to bring you down to the level they are and don’t want you to be happy. Don’t listen to these yo-yos. I hope everything works out well for you and her and I commend you on taking this to the level that it has become. Have an awsome and productive life with each other.

185. Anonymous - February 2, 2007

that is the cuitiest and sweetist thing i have every heard!

186. David - February 2, 2007

If this is actually legitimate and you pull this off you will look like the smartest man in the world. If it is the biggest scam and farce ever pulled off and your take all these stupid people’s money who have zero verifcation that any of this is actually real and sail off into the sunset with their money, you again will look like the smartest man in the world. Either way you win !!!

Never underestimate the predicatbility of human stupidity.

187. Cathy - February 3, 2007

JP,

I have been checking your site daily now, multiple times a day. I too am holding out hope for you and your girlfriend. I hope that you can pull this off. I wrote to each and every vendor that is running an ad during the superbowl in the hopes that if they got letters from the viewers that they would take a true interest in your story and help you.

If for nothing else to show that these big companys still care about John Q Public and want to help something nice happen in the world.

Best wishes and I will be eagerly sitting in front of the TV praying and hoping that this all comes true for you.

No matter what, don’t give up the idea. If it doesn’t work out for this year then heck give it another year and maybe with the additional time and maybe even try for a little more media attention you can pull this off.

I know there will be many ladies from the wedding forum I belong to sitting in front of their TV’s on Sunday as well in the hopes of seeing this come true for you as well.

I have not taken this down from my website yet and will not do so until after the Superbowl.

Think positive, you never know things just might pan out and you can fullfill the surprise of a life time for your girlfriend.

http://enokidawedding.weddingannouncer.com/

188. Peggy - February 3, 2007

Since I’ll only be watching for the commercials I hope to be seeing yours. I’m a Ravens fan and if you know anything about Baltimore and the team that ONCE belonged here you know I won’t be rootin’ for the Colts and I don’t care about the Bears either sooooo, I’ll be rootin’ for you.

Good luck and I sure hope she says YES!!!

189. James - February 3, 2007

The COLTS are goona WIN.

190. MB - February 4, 2007

I would be upset if you don’t get picked up. You will have over 90 millions people watching you. Everybody has heard about what you are wanting to do. I myself a women who LOVES football would definately love the idea of my boyfriend asking me to marry him during the superbowl. I can say that want happen. I have been married now for 10 years but I would have LOVED that idea.

When companies go out of there way to help the people who buy their products, to me it says that they care about their customer not just the bottom line. I would respect the company willing to do that for you so much more. If they are just going to drop you then I will find another channel or another product.

Good Luck and I hope it all works out for you.

191. TRUE LOVE - February 4, 2007

I ONLY WANTED TO WATCH THE SUPERBOWL FOR YOUR PROPOSAL!!! I MEAN COME ON WE ALREADY KNOW TO BUY WHAT EVER BEER AND STUFF THAT THESE COMMERCIALS WANT US TO. BUT TO SEE A GUY SHOW TRUE LOVE LIKE THIS IS PRICELESS!!! HOW ROMANTIC GOOD LUCK I’LL BE WATCHING!!!!

192. Terri - February 4, 2007

Hey,

I’m in agreement with TRUE LOVE’s post. I’m a canadian living in Calgary, Alberta and normally have absolutely no interest in the Superbowl. I was only going to watch it for your proposal. I am really hoping to see some sort of last minte miracle here. We are all rooting for you.

193. Marc - February 4, 2007

I’m also a Canadian living in Edmonton, Alberta and I’d have to agree with Terri on one thing. That I was going to watch the Superbowl purely to see your ad. Only not cause I think it’s romantic… I think it’s embarassing. Not many girls would want their proposal to be so… public. Have you considered what would happen if she says no or she would rather wait?

194. Please Let Him on the Superbowl!!! - February 4, 2007

I really hope that you make it on the superbowl! That’s the whole reason that I’m watching!!! Good Luck!!!!

195. Elle - February 4, 2007

this is so sweet! im watching .. & waiting .. as the rest of us are! good luck :-)

196. Cassi - February 4, 2007

SO SO SOOOO SWEET!!!! HOPE IT HAPPENS!!! WOULD DONATE MONEY IF I COULD BUT I CAN’T SORRY!!!

197. AShley - February 4, 2007

immmm waitinggg…im only watching for ur commerical…….goood luckk….this girl is the luckiest girl alive…..

198. larissa - February 4, 2007

good luck!!!!

199. nina patari - February 4, 2007

hey everyone!!!! please please pleease get a chance to propose!!! that would be awewasome and u r the reason i am watching the game so it better work!

200. dp - February 4, 2007

i hope they put your commercial on… everyone is waiting and watching…. good luck

201. Jomitchell - February 4, 2007

I’m waiting and watching. As a female, i think that this is a great idea, very romantic. But what are u going to do if she says no? just wondering, butshe probably wont because this is just to romantic for any sane woman to refuse. Got any brothers?

202. Tara Libby - February 4, 2007

I think watching paint dry is more exciting then football. Sorry boys, I’m a girl and I can’t tell a touchdown from a home run.
But, I’m glued to the Super bowl this year! I’m afraid to grab a drink in case I miss it! So I sit, crossing my fingers, hoping that any moment the boredom of football is interrupted by the most romantic proposal in history.
Your soon-to-be fiancé is the luckiest girl in the world regardless of if you actually pull this off. You have raised the bar for every guy in America.
Just imagining myself in her position is getting me all sappy, so I’ll shut up now and stop rambling….good luck and don’t forget-you ARE America’s ALPHA MALE for a long, long, time!

203. Bart - February 5, 2007

This is just stupid. You are begging people to donate money so you can do something you otherwise aren’t capable of doing. That’s just pathetic. Are you going to create donation websites for the wedding also? What ever happened to doing what you can afford?

204. disappointed - February 5, 2007

what a let down. guess this was all a hoax. hope you had the decency to at least buy your girl something nice with all of the money you ripped off from the decent people that were rooting for you.

205. Anonymous - February 5, 2007

SO WHAT HAPPENED?

206. Blah - February 5, 2007

I’m so sorry, you must be so disapointed. Does your girlfriend know about it?

207. Thalia - February 5, 2007

seriously - I was watching the superbowl just to see this proposal - and it didn’t happen??? Did you propose?

208. charlene - February 5, 2007

Well,, was it all a lie.. I didn’t see your add on the super-bowl.
What a scam. The local Radio Station has been talking this thing up too.

209. CBS sucks! Put blame where it lies! - February 5, 2007

For all of the nasty people that have written nasty things, GET A GRIP and do a little bit of research before you started shooting crap out of your mouth. He tried so hard to push this through, he wasn’t trying to rip anyone off, he was just trying to be original and romantic. Just because CBS sucks and cared more about there stupid commerials about CSI, Survivor, and the Grammies and other shows, doesn’t mean this guy wasn’t for real. People wouldn’t put in on TV and Radio and such without it being a real thing. CBS basically couldn’t be kind hearted and help a brother out! I say everyone that is unhappy go to the CBS website and send your complaints there. They need to hear how crappy they are. Instead of gripping at the poor guy that didn’t get to have his dream come true. Grip to CBS whom has a cold heart, and dollar signs for pupils!

210. Seriously Saddened by our Society - February 6, 2007

I thought your idea was incredibly unique. CBS and all of the Super Bowl advertisers should pay you for all of the people that wouldn’t get off of their couch to go to the bathroom because they were worried they would miss your commercial. I was incredibly dissappointed that your commercial didn’t get played and the ones that were played in it’s place, just increased that dissapointment. CBS should be ashamed of itself that it was too busy selling us products to stop and celebrate the love of one of our fellow citizens. Just a word of advise, put as much effort into marriage as you have into this proposal and you guys should make it just fine!

211. AJ - February 6, 2007

I really hope that your proposal gets aired. I’m in British Columbia, Canada and I watched the ENTIRE game waiting patiently for your ad to show up. I have to say I was disappointed not to see it air but from what you put in the blog….it couldn’t be helped anyway. CBS seemed to care more about commercials we’ve all seen a million times or more than to show something that doesn’t happen everyday.

I hope that she says yes!!

212. Adam - February 6, 2007

We’ve been eying your project, and I must say this is the most incredible proposal idea I’ve ever heard of. I wish you luck with your VM timeslot, and with your proposal - I’m sure she will be pleased.

213. Jenn - February 6, 2007

Can we see the ring atleast?

214. Ally - February 6, 2007

I am so sick of these stupid networks! I had a superbowl party, and we were all so excited to see you propose. We even recorded the game in case we somehow missed it. What a let down! CBS should be ashamed of themselves, money-hungry dirtbags. Best of luck to you, I hope that we get to see the proposal tonight, and I hope that you both have a long and happy life together….What a valiant effort!

215. Dennis - February 7, 2007

i have been watching this coverage for 3 months congrats

216. Dennis - February 7, 2007

I my self stayed up last night and watched 3 episodes of veronica mars to try to see the proposal and it did not air man was i unimpressed . I am very happy for you two.I am still mad though because i never got the chance to see it on t.v. Believe me veronica mars would not be the show I would have picked. It would be more like the sopranos or something.I t is now 6 in the morning were i live and i never went to bed till 3 a.m trying to see this. For all you people who doubted j.p’s intentions, I told you so. Just because it didn’t air on Superbowl doesn’t mean it wasn’t going to happen. C.B.S and those other possible stations well their bone heads. And i really think its great C.W picked you up. I am really happy for you.Keep updating your web site and let us know more.Maybe you could show her givin birth or your wedding live ha ha ha.Congrats

217. Dennis - February 7, 2007

I am back again I just can’t stay away I am so happy for you guys.
C.B.S SUCKS.

222. PS - February 8, 2007

this is a great idea! congratualations. even if it didn’t get shown during the superbowl, i think you found the next best thing.

i don’t care what everyone else has been saying, proposing to the one you love is a thing you only get to do once, and she’ll remember this forever.

223. Danelle - February 8, 2007

Congratulations! I think what you did was neat and romantic! Hell, don’t listen to those out there that say it was stupid, or any other negative comments! This is something she will remember for LIFE and will be so neat to have video proof of it all!!!

A proposal is a proposal, doesn’t matter if it is on a beach, on TV or in Wal Mart*like mine was!*

Props to you for doing it!!!

224. Kayo - February 8, 2007

Am I the only person on Earth who this is the first time hearing about this? This is so incredibly sweet and thoughtful. Great idea and good for you following through with it! :-) I wish you both the best in the future…. Umm, you are going to keep us posted on how it all turns out, right? Don’t leave me hanging now!!!! Congrats.

225. Natalie - February 10, 2007

I JUST now heard of this.
I loved her reaction, that was great.

Now, spend that much energy and time and excitement on your actual marriage and you’ll be happy forever.

226. Melissa - Quantico, VA - February 13, 2007

I just have to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! CBS HAS TRULY SADDENED ME & THE REST OF AMERICA. there is only one way for them to make it up to you (and us) AIR YOU 2 LIVE AT NEXT YEARS HALF-TIME EXCHANGING YOUR VOWS FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE. and they should do it for FREE. Coke can sponsor drinks , bridal store can supply the dress, you guys can get the works on national t.v. that would be a story for the grandkids. anyways good-luck in life and love and just take it one day at a time.

227. Saket, (India) - February 15, 2007

Hey Rand !!! it takes guts to do that kind of thing. It is great. I come from a different part of the world (india) . but Love and its feelings would be the same everywhere. All the best for a great life ahead. And.. take care of Geraldine. All the best :)

228. Michelle Smith - February 15, 2007

Thank you for making this love story available to all of us!

229. Dawn - February 20, 2007

So i just found this out! I cant belive they wouldnt let you air the proposal! :( Congrats.

230. Jeanine Rhea - February 21, 2007

Rand and Geraldine - congrats! I’m sure no regrets but still i think it would have been great if it could have been on the Superbowl. So much better than all of the ads that they spent thousands to produce that got a slight chuckle when played. My opinion - whoever the mystery sponsor was that didnt go through really missed out on some fab press. Already, I can hardly recall most of the commercials but yours would have been extremely memorable for years. And big name mystery sponsor would have reaped the benefits. Bad decision, marketing execs!!! Anyway, it was still so endearing and wonderful that you got to do it in such a big way.

I do have to say that I did kind of wonder about Geraldine’s one word vocab but she did redeem herself in her postings which I thought were extremely amusing and enjoyable to read. Again, congrats - you make a sweet couple. :)
